Justice Dept shelved gun background check system
After the shooting of Representative Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona and
others at a supermarket in Tucson in early 2011, the Justice Department
drew up a detailed list of steps the government could take to expand the
background-check system in order to reduce the risk of guns falling
into the hands of mentally ill people and criminals.
Most of the proposals, though, were shelved at the department a year ago as the election campaign heated up and as Congress conducted a politically charged investigation into the Operation Fast and Furious gun trafficking case, according to people familiar with the internal deliberations. It is not clear which, if any, of the conclusions were relayed to the White House.

The Newtown Shooter's Guns
Te AR-15 style rifle — the most popular rifle in America, according to gun dealers — also was the weapon of choice for Adam Lanza,
who police said used one made by Bushmaster on Friday to kill 20 young
children and six adults in an elementary school in Newtown, Conn., the worst in history.
The two semiautomatic pistols and .223-caliber Bushmaster assault rifle Lanza used in the shooting were registered to his mother, whom several witnesses identified as an avid gun collector. The weapons that police recovered from the scene included a Glock 10mm handgun (first reported as a 9mm and the video below is on the 9mm), a Sig Sauer 9-mm handgun and a Bushmaster rifle. One gun was left in his car.
Folks do people really need guns such as these? The Denver Egotist says, "Every time some complete fucking nutball opens fire on a bunch of innocent people, we get the usual “this is not the time to talk about gun control” bullshit from the NRA and the right wing. Well, when is the time? Never, really, because it’s a right that most red-blooded gun advocates will only see pried from their cold, dead hands. Which, ironically, could happen because of their belief in their beloved firearms."
The other side of that argument

Boehner and Obama becoming BFF's?
Comment Up
I dunno. It is all very confusing. You read one thing and then read something entirely different. A 45 minute meeting yesterday between the president and the Speaker of the House--can't imagine much being accomplished in that short of time. It probably went something like, "Mr. President, here's my compromise; do you accept it?" "No," said Obama.
The Fiscal cliff is almost on top of us and Republicans are trying to compromise--a little...Democrats not much at all and that's no surprise as they are spending us right into bankruptcy.
As Obama wants a two year extension of the debt ceiling, it has been stated that Boehner will stand by his condition that the debt ceiling be raised only if Washington cuts spending by an amount greater than the increase. The latest information out is that Republican Boehner is about to agree and give up on the debt ceiling, the entire platform of the Party...he and Obama are becoming best friends.
Obama is slow to negotiate and to compromise and is holding steadfast as he has not learned a thing about the importance of compromise after being in office for four years. He now has suggested cuts of $200 billion, split equally between defense and non-defense programs.
Republicans are opposed to higher tax rates because history shows that once rates go up, it is difficult to later reduce government revenue by lowering them again, a theory that we as citizens know all too well.
John Boehner’s proposal would generate about $2 trillion in savings over the next decade, split equally between new taxes and spending cuts. On the tax side, as much as $460 billion would be locked in by letting the George W. Bush-era tax cuts expire on income over $1 million a year. Obama wants to curtail all future cost of living increases for social security recipients although he says he wants us protected and a higher tax rate on those making over $400,000 rather than the $250,000 he has been touting all through the election.
Republicans need to get a backbone; make a case to the American people and one that we will finally understand. Government loves spending our money and all of us know the trouble we are in when we can't balance our personal budgets.

Paul Snitkin, of Anderson and Carr, has been recognized by the National Association of Realtors by winning the National Award for outstanding achievement in the commercial real estate industry.
Imagine this--He managed to get this award without even finding a lessee for our upstairs Casino space or even believing in the property owned by his client, the City of Lake Worth. Way to go Paul.

$1 million in scholarships to illegal aliens
Comment Up
Only in California.
The University of California, Berkeley has received a $1 million gift from the Evelyn and Walter Haas, Jr. Fund. The money will provide scholarships for almost 200 students who are illegal immigrants.
“Clearly it’s unethical,” says Mark Krikorian, executive director of the anti-illegal-immigration Center for Immigration Studies, according to NPR. “What it means is that this foundation is valuing illegal immigrant students above American or legal immigrant students who can’t afford the tuition at the UC system.”

Key Security Programs for schools phased out by Obama
Comment Up
Government officials told the Washington Guardian on Friday night that two Justice Department programs that had provided more than $200 million to schools for training, security equipment and police resources over the last decade weren't renewed in 2011 and 2012, and that a separate program that provided $800 million to put police officers inside the schools was ended a few years earlier.

Obama ignoring the Constitution and "with bigger fish to fry,"
says he won't go after Washington and Colorado for recreational marijuana use where voters have legalized it even though growing, selling or possessing any amount of marijuana remains illegal under federal law.
The Supreme Court allowed Congress to regulate growing crops because they had the possibility of ending up in interstate commerce. Therefore the growing of marijuana falls under the Interstate Commerce Clause. Also, marijuana is a Schedule 1 controlled substance, like heroin, according to federal law.
