Kristi Noem Just Told China Exactly What Trump Will Do Next in the Arctic

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced Tuesday that the United States is teaming up with Canada and Finland to build nearly a dozen cutting-edge icebreaker ships to defend the Arctic against rival powers.

Noem signed a letter of intent on the Icebreaker Collaboration Effort alongside Canadian Ambassador Kirsten Hillman and Finland's Minister of Economic Affairs Sakari Puisto at DHS headquarters in Washington, D.C.

The announcement came after Chinese ships openly operated in U.S. Arctic waters shortly after the Coast Guard commissioned the icebreaker Storis earlier this year.

"Their goal was clear," Noem said. "They wanted to test America's resolve."

Beijing made a serious miscalculation.

The Coast Guard deployed the Cutter Healy and a fleet of air assets to the scene and escorted the Chinese vessels out of American waters.

"Our rapid response sent a clear message: Under President Trump's leadership, we will defend our sovereignty," Noem stated.
