Expectant Mother Parking Permit, Senate Bill 462

A new Florida law allowing pregnant women to use handicap parking spaces is facing a federal lawsuit from disability rights advocates who claim it violates the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

The “Expectant Mother Parking Permit” program, part of Senate Bill 462 signed by Governor Ron DeSantis, allows pregnant women to obtain a temporary handicap parking placard for $15 with a doctor’s note confirming pregnancy.

The permit lasts up to one year and grants access to parking spaces reserved for people with disabilities.

The lawsuit, filed October 27 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida, was brought by Olivia Keller, a Leon County resident with disabilities.

Keller alleges the law reduces access to van-accessible parking and makes it harder for disabled individuals to participate in work, medical, and community activities.

Lawyers are the only ones getting rich. People sue for everything or anything.

I don't think it's appropriate unless they've gotten special permission as being handicapped or disabled to use them while they're pregnant there will be a lot of abuse of this as well just like look at all the dogs in the supermarkets in Publix and Beach and everywhere else it's only supposed to be service dogs but everyone's bringing all their pets into all the stores now and it's against federal and state law but we can never get any enforcement from public supermarket or anywhere else to enforce it it's really sad to see people will just keep abusing and abusing that's why they need to do away with the right on red law because people don't even stop first before they turn right on red they abuse it so stop all these stupid laws! They can never enforce anything these days!

The handicapped spaces aren't any better than the regular spaces. How does the handicapped space at Publix LW make getting in the store any easier than the space next to it. It might have seemed like a good idea, and it might work in some places, but in most places it's just a politically correct ploy. In many places, all of the parking, including handicapped is pretty far away from the store.

That's what they call "feel good legislation". It's the most ridiculous thing I've heard yet. Would it be the whole 9 months, or just the last trimester. What bird brain thought this up. I can't believe we pay these people. For your information, expectant mothers need exercise.

Well, Florida Senate Bill 462 was passed by the legislature with unanimous support in both the Senate and the House of Representatives. That means both Democrats and Republicans, etc. voted for it. They all must see some value to a pregnant mother in order to pass this.

Just another feel-good idea that is coming from our woke government. Pregnant women need exercise, too. The woke monsters in government are contributing to unhealthy pregnancies.
