And the reason is exactly what you’d suspect in today’s unhinged political climate. That stunning admission refers to the annual Red Mass at St. Matthew’s Cathedral—a tradition where the nation’s legal minds gather to seek wisdom at the start of a new Supreme Court term.

This year, the justices’ seats were empty because a man named Louis Geri was arrested on the cathedral steps, armed with a Molotov cocktail. He now faces charges including threats to kidnap or injure a person. The threat was real, it was aimed at our judiciary, and it was waiting at the doors of a church.
