Sunset 10-18-25

In chess, there’s a moment when an experienced player allows their opponent to believe they’ve gained the upper hand. The amateur advances confidently, definitely smugly, unaware they’re walking into a carefully laid trap. This October, congressional Democrats made such a move, shutting down the federal government over healthcare subsidies while inadvertently handing their opponent the very powers they’d spent years trying to limit.

The shutdown began October 1st when Senate Democrats refused to support a Republican continuing resolution unless it included extensions for Affordable Care Act premium tax credits. Their calculation seemed straightforward: force Republicans to choose between a shutdown or expanding healthcare spending. Chuck Schumer and his colleagues prepared for their “No Kings” rally in Washington, ready to denounce presidential overreach.

But while Democrats focused on their political theater, they overlooked a critical detail in the mechanics of government shutdowns.

Our duly elected President (no King) said, “We’re cutting a $20 billion project, now a $42 billion boondoggle, that Schumer fought for 15 years to get, and I’m cutting the project. The project is gonna be dead. It’s just pretty much dead right now. [Istandforfreedom]

Good Night, Patriots!
