Lake Worth Beach October 6 Commission Meeting - Stand with Taiwan

CONSENT AGENDA: (public comment allowed during Public Participation of Non- Agendaed items)

A. Proclamation declaring October 10, 2022 as The Republic Of China’s (Taiwan) 111th National Day

China says that Taiwan was originally a Chinese province. But the Taiwanese point to the same history to argue that they were never part of the modern Chinese state that was first formed after the revolution in 1911 - or the People's Republic of China that was established under Mao in 1949.

China sees self-ruled Taiwan as a breakaway province that will eventually be under Beijing's control.

President Xi Jinping has said "reunification" with Taiwan "must be fulfilled" - and has not ruled out the possible use of force to achieve this.

But Taiwan sees itself as distinct from the Chinese mainland, with its own constitution and democratically-elected leaders.

Here is the request to place this on our agenda:

We don't have enough problems.

Stand with Taiwan? We don't even have a fighting force to speak of.

One war at a time please.

Yes, I would agree. The streets look like the Hurricane was on our side of the state.

I don't understand that. The City Manager should drive/walk around and see what the city looks like.

Bornstein was a good City Manager, and the Commission should have tried to keep him, instead of forcing him to quit.

The Commission we have now, is where the word Drones came from.
