The Fall Guy

Comment Up

On Tuesday night, and just like a true pirate, City Manager Bornstein took one "for the gipper"--the fall for the ITN fiasco.  Some wonder if the entire secret ITN was planned to eventually get Hudson Holdings as the only player still left, after the fact so to speak. (They're still lurking in the wings). We will never know the real intent of this non-transparent Invitation to Negotiate but it dragged on for nearly three quarters of a year with only three replies.

The city manager remained expressionless (pirates are "stand up" men) and was not the least bit surprised when Mayor Pam Triolo threw the blame of this decision right in his face. Sometimes, especially when you just got a big raise and a 5 year contract, you have to lay down for your bosses. If you recall, the entire commission voted for the ITN but no one really knew what in heck it was all about and no one asked, why not an RFP? They formulated a special committee and even dragged in the Inspector General to give it another level of credibility and their idea of transparency. Perhaps at the time the mayor simply rubber stamped staff's wishes and "rushed" it through the agenda with little discussion/understanding like so many other items. Now it's election time.

Triolo said the following:

"...We all know, for all intents and purposes, that you, city manager, introduced us to the ITN process for reasons to bring creative solutions to some of the challenging areas in the city, the beach being one of them I guess for this specific thing but it was a major failure, for lack of a better word...Other towns and cities do it but Lake Worth requires an extra level of scrutiny over everything."

Great picture!!! Been a long time since I have laughed this hard. This blog should get a Saturday Night Live award, seriously. If you can expose a serious subject with grab your gut humor--that's a stroke of genius that carries the message even further. I do not believe for one minute the poor CM acted alone without his buddies-- including HH, Szerdi and gang of 3; but I'll be very glad to pack his bags for him! At least with elections nipping at their heels we are getting some lip service support of government in the sunshine. I doubt if the backrooms are closed for business, esp. with MacDiarmid the magician obtaining a key to the ballroom that nobody in the City has seen. Curiouser and curiouser down the rabbit hole--

Pam had one of those moments when she realized that we need an extra level of scrutiny? When did she finally know that? What a corrupt gang that has never shown any consideration towards anyone who opposes them.

Lynn, this is a classic! Too funny. However, calling Bornstein a pirate gives pirates a bad name.
The Mayor calling our beautiful beach a "challenging" area in the city? Is she insane? Madame Mayor ,there are MANY "challenging areas "in Lake Worth ,but the beach isn't one of them!
Bornstein,Szerdi,Maxwell,Triolo and Amoroso knew EXACTLY why this ITN process was put forward. They wanted to give our beach to Hudson Holdings. AND THEY STILL WANT TO !!!
The idea that the county IG willingly participated in this sick scheme shows that he's nothing but a piece of crap. He should be fired. When you can't trust the IG for dishonest shenanigans, then there really is no hope for the citizens of CORRUPTION COUNTY .

This is a funny town. The unscrupulous get elected... They of course mess things up & are hated by the people they govern and their employees yet the citizens keep electing repulsive people to represent them and then complain when they do the expected. So many employees hate this city but are stuck here yet i know so many people that wouldnt even consider buying property in Lake Worth just because of how corrupt the politicians are.

RE: 7:03. Very good point. Let's please encourage those we know and those we don't know to challenge this acceptance of corruption in government. Some of my neighbors who have been here longer tell me the same: that dirty land deals have always been a part of Lake Worth, and that will probably never change. Well, I don't think that has to be true. Talk it up. Encourage honest people to run for office. Notice they have not yet taken our beach. We cannot let them continue to run UNOPPOSED. We need new leadership and I refuse to believe that "no one can fight City Hall." We voted Szerdi out didn't we?
