Greenacres and PBSO

Greenacres always seems to manage its budget without going deep into debt. Of course, they have had their own police and fire departments where they have been able to control those huge costs but recently chose to go with PBSO. Now they have increased their millage to pay for infrastructure and the PBSO.

In August, on a 4/1 vote, they decided on a ten year contract with PBSO which was going to cost them $500,000 more right off the bat with a $130,000 raise every year. Their contract calls for a 7% cap every year as does ours. So when our mayor Pam Triolo takes credit for negotiating with the PBSO telling us that she has saved  money,   the cost has really gone up, just less than what it could have been. It's really PBSO playing the better negotiating game and convincing elected officials that they are getting a "good deal."

Greenacres residents were complaining about all the crime, just as we do in Lake Worth, and believing that the PBSO would get a handle on it all. The Sheriff told them that their violent crimes unit would come right in; their narcotics unit would be on the ball, helicopter searches--the same sort of story we were fed. We always had access to these services as they are paid for on our county taxes.

Greenacres really should have checked with the citizens of Lake Worth, not the political ones who believe that the PBSO is some sort of salvation. Perhaps they should have done a Google search on crime and even that doesn't tell you the complete story.
