I just have to say that with all the crime and blight we read about in L.W. the neighborhood associations overcome the negativity and are the cities biggest asset. I am so thankful to these volunteers who organize such terrific activities.

Well, fun and games are, well, fun! And for a brief moment we can forget reality here.

Our association met last night on the serious crime issue and we are going to be pro-active instead of burying our heads in the sand.

I am not sure what you mean but a neighborhood crime watch has proven to be a good starting point.

Even with the crime and blight and the city commission that is beholden to non-residents we have a lot to be thankful for. We do have great neighborhood associations that put on great events, we actually have some wonderful, friendly neighborhoods, a wonderful park system, new casino, snook islands, a vibrant downtown, etc.

Really, our issues are pretty simple. First, crime, we have to get the commission to put pressure on PBSO to patrol our streets and downtown. Half of our budget goes to PBSO and I don't think we are getting our money's worth. I like PBSO and I was in favor of the switch, but they really are non-existent in our city. Second, blight and code and taxes. All goes together, code fails to enforce our codes, permitting our residential areas to degrade which causes blight and reduces our tax base.

Could not have said that better if I had tried. Thanks for your comment.
