A Lake Worth Commission out of Control - The meeting from Hell

Comment Up
The blue light is on--perhaps they
"forgot" to turn on the green light!

The audio/video was inoperable last night. It was said that it broke down the day before. Did they just "forget" to turn the damn thing on? Why did they not get it repaired?  After last night's mayoral and city attorney performance, I can see why the city did not have the video or audio on. The less people witnessing this outrageous display of abuse, the better. They got away with "murder" in their actions and deeds feeling comfortable with the belittlement of citizens because of the legal opinions (note I said OPINION) from their city attorney. They all smugly sat up there and quietly rejoiced.

This is sort of like the Tri-Board meeting in January 2012 where the Comp Plan, LDRS and zoning was discussed--there was total consensus at that meeting to keep the downtown at 45 feet.  No audio was on and  Minutes were inadequate and a lot of politicos there got dementia later on once a new development oriented commission came into power. Now they can't remember a damn thing that they discussed and agreed.

The most important thing that was on the agenda last night was the Second Public Hearing on the revision of the Land Development Regulations. This commission could have done the right thing by the voters and kept those areas that were described in the Referendum to 45 and 35 feet. That never entered one brain cell and why would it?  They all wanted 6 story buildings in our downtown other than Commissioner McVoy who does believe in the will of the people and the election results. This was all corrupt politics. As John Szerdi said to me during the break, the amount of win was not that big. I then reminded him that he won by ZERO votes.

What was evident and appalling was the total lack of respect that the mayor has for all those who differ from her 65 feet hotel district for which she has always campaigned. Reprimanding us like 5 year olds, she picked apart every citizen's comments directly after they spoke having the city attorney interject an "opinion," an opinion we feel is in total error, on each public speakers commentary tearing it apart with this, that or the next reason even mentioning guns at one point. No one knows what that was about. They were trying a case where citizens had no rebuttal, treating them like dumb schmucks. We were even told that State law trumps "will of the voters." The behavior by the mayor and the legal tactic taken by the city against the citizens during their right of free speech was just flat wrong, obnoxious and purposely done to prove their case on how wrong we are and how intellectually superior they are. In spite of the worst behavior ever witnessed at a public meeting by elected officials, the citizens all had resolve. And we all sat there in utter amazement.

I met a man in the hallway and asked him why he was here.  He said, "the entertainment." That's what it was last night...rude, contemptuous and right in your face slap down of free speech and an attitude of "voters be damned" --and just like bad "reality" television, this was "reality city hall" at its worst. Even the Kardashian reality show has some redeeming value. The commission that should be representing the people and treating them respectfully, followed a legal opinion of the city attorney, an opinion that we believe to be far reaching and flat wrong. That is why there are courts of law.

Decisions made by elected officials should be reflected by the wants of the people who reside here, not the wants of developers, business and special interest groups.

I agree. This action taken by them to turn off the audio and video is total controlling bull s**t. The only people who got to witness their despicable performance were in that room. this was done with intent so as not to use it against them in court.

I have never ever experienced anything like the censorship, control and manipulation that happened by OUR ELECTED last night!

Corrected as if we were stupid kids!

They take their marching orders
from People like Andres Duany who
says things like this:

Subsidiarity: “We design who makes what decision and when”.

The Principle is: “The smallest party that can competently make it, let’s decide as little as possible now and download to others later…because they’ll be more competent to do it”. (He mentioned probably the State would decide. Sound familiar?)

In his introduction, the audience (our elected Reps) at TCRPC was reminded they would hear about the CONCEPT of SUBSIDIARITY...AGAIN!

All this from a group the uses CASSETTE TAPES to record their meeting and doesn't take credit cards to pay for ALL the Tapes!

I have NEVER witnessed such an out an out intimidation of citizens by our supposed representatives as I did last night. Pam Triolo was unbelievably rude, bullying and out of control. Intimidation like what happened to people last night is hard to explain or even believe if you were not in that room last night.I fully understand why the city turned of the audio and visual last night. people won't be able to see the Mayors intimidation tactics and bullying, but we will be able to get the audio. And I plan to make sure that this is heard all over the city and the state. Katie Mcgiveron

There was a camera in the audience that recorded the meeting. How much
is a back up camera on a tri-pod? Under $200.00? Money well spent to secure our precious public record!

this ploy was all planned out.

Can someone give us an example of how the mayor was rude? If you tell the commission to violate state law what's wrong with getting asked why you support the violation of the law?

The mayor won by 200 votes, in Szerdi's mind that shouldn't count either?

Listen to last night's audio. That should give you an eye-opener. If you had taken time to show up at the meeting last night, you would have had hundreds of examples to answer your question. We were telling the Commission to UPHOLD the law last night. By approving 65 feet, against the majority of Lake Worth Voters wishes, and in violation of the Charter THE COMMISSION BROKE THE LAW!!

Out of Control, and The Meeting from Hell about sums up what went on last night. It started with NON AGENDA Items, and went down-hill from there. If this had happened in My hometown, the Chambers would have been cleared, and some of the people screaming with distaste at the Commission would have been arrested.
I took a friend that was thinking about buying in Lake Worth, and after what she saw last night she said I was crazy for ever investing in this town.
Hope you all got your Jollies in last night, cause I never want to see a repeat of what I saw last night.
Of Course I know better than that with an election coming up it was just a prelude to what we in the city who have level heads can expect in the near future.

Two weeks ago at the first reading of the LDR's SUGGESTIONS could have been taken. Not ONE person spoke. The last meeting you all spoke. Scripted Comments, everyone was IMPACTED. No suggestions, Just to Hell with the Law. Do it OUR way. The Mayor was blasted for insisting that every person that spoke, was answered in real time. That was to get it on the public record. I have never seen anything so political from beginging to end. From when the City Attorney tried to explain to Ms. Anderson that there was legislation floating around in Tallahassee until Tuesday Night, Now you have your issue for the upcoming Campaign, Now you have hired an Attorney we will see Who is right. If the Yes people were right, the Charter, the Comp plan, and the Map will be changed. I for one am very happy this is now in the courts.

You are right. No one spoke at the first Public Hearing. Why should we have? It was better to wait and see what the commission said or did. To infer that our statements were scripted is just flat wrong just like your lies during the election. Ms. Decker's attorney has filed a Writ of Mandamus so speaking to this on Tuesday was the appropriate time to do so. We have been speaking to this for nearly ONE year. If the Mayor and the city attorney wanted to get ANY point on the public record, all they had to do was to wait until after we all spoke. This was a ridiculous scene.

I'm not interested in an opinion about legislation that our city attorney believes pertains to the charter Amendment other than he has an opinion and we have heard it and disagree. The only opinion I am interested in is the truth. Hopefully we will find that all out. Let the cards fall where they may.

P.S. This has NEVER been "political" on the part of the YES people. Sadly we had to go out on a referendum and a ballot initiative because this commission MADE IT POLITICAL.

anony at 9:08, this has always been about doing it YOUR Way, THOSE in power and those who are as corrupt as any politician in PB County. You may not have taken money--yet--but this is about the VOTE and what you did. this is no longer about heights but circumventing the voting results with some trumped up BS. Thanks for listening. please post. BS is not A dirty word, just the truth.
