The 100 most dangerous cities with a population of over 25,000. Lake Worth ranks number 35. Riviera Beach is at number 20. I guess we don't spend enough on public safety. For year 2012, the City has budgeted $14,423,040 for PBSO.
Your chances of becoming a victim in Lake Worth are 1 in 67. Considering all that has happened over the last month, we all very well might be victims.
To Mike who told me to stop being so negative, well, let's change the reality Mike. Besides, if I wrote all about sugar plums it would be boring as hell on this blog. I will leave that to some of the feel good "hard" newspapers.
Lake Osborne Heights has been hit by criminals and recently a few were caught by the PBSO. Robert Waples, President of ROLOH, says--

People should not be looking in windows of neighbors homes. Please stay diligent if you're out and about and just like our neighbor below, please call if you see anything suspicious!

Txxxxx and I were standing outside between the cars. Four guys, three black one might have been Hispanic rode down Collier towards Lake Osborne. One broke off, went up 2212 Collier and proceeded to look in the windows. I mean stood still, backed up, looked all through the windows. The others had gone down Lake Osborne towards Lantana. I called 911 and while I was on the phone they came back up the park side and stood. When I came out from behind the car they took off. They had no idea we were outside watching them.

I LOVE LAKE WORTH, I WOULDN'T MOVE ANYWHERE ELSE, IT IS A GREAT CITY EVEN WITH ITS PROBLEMS,IT IS SO MUCH BETTER CRIMEWISE THAN IT WAS SEVERAL YEARS AGO. PBSO HAVE DONE A LOT, THEY ARE NOT PERFECT THOUGH, MOST POLICE ALWAYS AVOID CRIME ISSUES AND PROBLEMS UNTIL AFTER THE FACT, THEY HIDE OUT OF FEAR OR IT BEING TOO MUCH WORK FOR THEM, IT IS EASIER TO HIDE THEIR POLICE CAR OVER BY THE GOLF COURSE INSTEAD OF ON LAKE AVE AND E STREET WHERE ALL THE REAL PROBLEMS ARE, LIKE DEALING WITH THE DRUNKS, ILLEGALS, DRUG DEALERS, AND PROSTITUTES. I clicked the link to the stats and I'm not sure if this report is including unincorporated Lake Worth as part of our city. How many times have you heard that there has been a crime in Lake Worth on the news and than see that it happened near Wellington? Thank God we have PBSO.
As the citizen reported on this blog, it took the sheriff 15 minutes to respond. By that time the criminals were long gone. Thank God it was not some sort of bodily harm situation.
Yes indeed. We should be thanking quick and attentive neighbors watching out for each other. God has nothing to do with it nor does the PBSO.
Well, if one is looking out for their neighbors, then God may have something to do with it, as stated in biblical writings' do unto others' etc.
If the police really wanted to be effective, they would have a stronger presence in the high crime areas and maybe even set up a manned police sub-station over by Lake Ave and South E Street where a lot of the lawlessness and craziness happens here in this city. Guys all hanging out there daily drinking beers in public and selling whatever in the streets illegally. A substation might help there, the police could do a lot more if they really wanted to. I'll keep on praying for our city and the police that they can get a handle on things better and that our city is less and less dangerous.
I remember Susan Stanton always used to say that too, that we just need to make all the immigrants and foreigners living in our city "care" and understand better how to live in this city and country.
God has everything to do with it! Don't underestimate His power and presence in all things.

Where in heck are the patrol cars in this city? Jesus, perhaps you can get out on a crime watch and pray.
Lake Worth is getting so much better, I recall that a few years back we were ranked 17 so we must be getting a handle on things if we are 35 now. On the news this morning they mentioned three shootings/crime issues in Royal Palm so maybe the crime is moving west some. It feels a lot safer here to me. I just LOVE Lake Worth, we have the best of everything here. God bless Lake Worth and all its residents.
Wow, this list shows Ft. Piece at 16 this year and Riviera Beach at 20, so we are not as bad as them, I think Lake Worth was in the teens a few years ago on this list, so we are making some progress, I am sure thanks to the PBSO and former CM's leadership. A lot of the illegals have been run off since there are not as many jobs here for them, so that probably helps too. FL has a lot of cities on this list, wow!
With more people reading the Happy Herald, not the LW Herald or other media here, maybe we can change things here and make all much better. There really is a very nice newspaper here in South Florida called the Happy Herald. It is a great paper, filled with positive and uplifting stories. It really can be inspiring and maybe can help improve our city as a whole if more people read it and practiced what they advocate in it. Pick up a free copy around town if you are interested!
OMG, there are 18 Florida cities on this list, almost 20% of the cities, this is alarming, FL needs to take a stand if they want to remain a tourist destination in this country and world. This just does not look good for us in FL. What can we do?
Lake Worth is better now that a lot of the gangs have been crushed and a lot of the illegal immigrants have moved on.
As far as reading "happy" news, that is fine and dandy but we have to confront the cold hard facts in front of us that happen on a daily basis. We should be entirely OFF this list. That would and should be the goal.
