We Love Lake Worth

We Love Lake Worth Political Action Committee had its petitions certified by the Supervisor of Elections on July 19, 2007. Why did this PAC form in the first place? Why did the citizens help the PAC to gather these signatures? It was to overturn three Ordinances voted on by 3 out of 5 City Commissioners to

1) change our Comprehensive Plan to create a new Land Use District 2007-09,
2) change the future Land Use Map designation from Public Recreation and Open Space to BAC 2007-10
3) rezoning the beach from PROS to BAC 2007-20.

In the periphery, but still of paramount importance, was ridding Greater Bay from our City. To do that, the three ordinances had to be over-turned with the belief that no city has the right to change land use without a vote of the people. This is where Florida Hometown Democracy will be of utmost importance in 2010. The people will be able to actually vote on these sorts of bad political decisions that affect municipalities.

It just seems that We Love Lake Worth PAC, along with certain Commissioners, now chooses to forget or wants to dismiss the facts of the matter that it went out into the community with the help of others to get the above on the ballot. Some in the PAC believe that it was about losing control of our public beach on a public/private partnership. NO it is not and it was NOT.

Top Signature Gatherers:
Laurence McNamara.... 415
Laurel Decker............. 349
Kimberly Kirby............ 268
Lynn Anderson............ 219
Dee McNamara........... 211

I know for certain that three out of the top five petition gatherers remember why we hustled every day.

Some of us worry that this Political Action Committee might have lost its focus by:

1. its simple failure to even mention and come clean as to why it campaigned and its public silence on the true reason
2. the obvious initiative has been placed on the back burner as some supporters of the PAC support Commissioner Jennings and her worry about Global Warming and future generations that might use the Casino. Of course the building will be built to a life expectancy of 50 years, so there is no need to worry about what may or may not happen 100 to 200 years from now. It is estimated that sea levels will rise anywhere from 8 inches to 2.5 feet over this Century. No one knows.
3. if Global Warming was involved in every decision that the Commission made, we wouldn't ever be able to proceed, even on an RO investment. No one would ever buy property in Lake Worth or any coastal city. We would all end up moving to Arizona.
3. and the PAC has forgotten the true motivation of this Committee to form and rise to action in the first place—

You can understand why we might get somewhat concerned.

The leaders of this PAC backed Cara Jennings in her reelection. Jennings was for saving our beach/casino and she helped gather petitions to keep PROS zoning there. It is understandable that there is concern about our environment and global warming, the coastal construction line and all things green, however, the PAC petitioned to retain PROS zoning.

Yesterday some if not all of the Commissioners met with Michael Singer Artist. Certain members of the public were invited to attend these private discussions. Was there even one resident there who helped the PAC gather signatures? Was there one resident there who was involved in the lawsuit? Was there one member there who was an Intervenor with the DCA to stop the Greater Bay project? You know, the people who had a direct influence in saving our beach? If not, why not?

If the City drives one piling into the ground to build any type of a structure, the zoning must change from PROS to a commercial zoning of BAC. Click here to read zoning descriptions.

It is no wonder why most people do not want to ever get involved in politics. Who do you trust when leaders constantly let you down? You can’t wear a white hat one day on an issue and then wear a black hat the next on the same thing.

This PAC is all about zoning and land use. I’m speaking to you, We Love Lake Worth and to you City Commissioners, in case you forgot. And all those who helped you, helped the PAC, and all 3,000 residents who signed petitions, want to remind you of that.
