Race relations - It's not like making instant oatmeal

Comment Up
Is it because I'm black?

154 years later, race is still an issue in this country. People are more angry than ever. You would think that we would have made great strides after the Civil Rights Act. Now, because of some whack job who shot up a church and had a Confederate Flag wrapped around him in some photo as well as other situations--the demands of liberals (do-gooders) everywhere, some people are more belligerent than ever and say anything they want still tossing around the race card with vengeance. It is obnoxiously exhausting.

Just a short while ago I was in back of a black woman who was picking up at Walgreens Pharmacy drive-through window. From the moment she pulled up to the window, she was flailing her arm wildly, yelling and screaming obscenities and giving the pharmacist hell. It seems that her prescriptions were not moved to that store quickly enough from her store in another city. She yelled for the employee to do her damn job and would not listen to any explanation. That was beyond her comprehension and patience and even asked, "Is it because I'm black?"

Curiosity had me hooked as to what was coming next but finally, after seven minutes of waiting in line for this woman to move on and stop her screaming, I backed up, parked and went inside to get my order. I then talked to the store manager. If I had been that pharmacist, I would have first called the manager. If he were not available, the sheriff would have been called. No one needs to put up with abuse, not for one second, by some ignorant customer believing that the world owes her a living and using the race card to take whatever retribution she believes she deserves.

All things take time. It's not like instant oatmeal. However, after 154 years or 50 years there is still half of Americans today who believe that race relations have become worse under Obama. If this sort of behavior continues, there will be no winners.

Decal Parking at the Lake Worth Beach

Comment Up

I always drive up the north end of our beach park and enter the resident decal parking. I never drive down the south end of our beach. Who would have known that 23 spaces were moved from our original and dedicated decal parking lot? It was never confirmed at City Hall that this was decided. It was never voted on. Is this not policy? I don't particularly have an objection to this other than it was never discussed at City Hall. As I recall, this was brought up by Mr. Bornstein, casually and not in depth.  No details were given at all other than he wanted to move some of our decal parking to the south end.

My concern was whether the County had to give Lake Worth permission to move these spaces as our resident decal parking lot was part of our 30 year agreement with them in order to get the $5 million in bond money. I asked Juan Ruiz our Leisure Services Director and he said, "NO," as long as we have 613 spaces for the general public. There have been complaints from some residents that there were no decal parking spaces at the south end near Benny's and the pier. The city made a good compromise.

Obama now defying a Federal Judge

Federal Judge tells Ric Bradshaw to expect hours for deposition

"Judge Daniel Hurley just ordered Bradshaw, who’s returning today from a 24-day vacation where he surrendered the keys of the agency to Chief Deputy Michael Gauger, to sit down for questioning Friday at 2 p.m."

Bradshaw originally told the court that he could give around 45 minutes to this but the Judge has told him that it could take up to four hours.

Iran Deal is still a Bad Deal

Secretary John Kerry stated, “If Congress were to veto the deal, Congress—the United States of America—would be in noncompliance with this agreement and contrary to all of the other countries in the world.”

The Daily Signal gives important reasons why Congress should dismiss this pressure from the White House:

1. Congress still has a say over whether U.S. sanctions remain enforced.
2. UN Security Council Resolution 2231 does not require the U.S. to remove its sanctions.
3. The JCPOA remains a terrible deal that dismantles sanctions but not Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.
4. Iran will benefit from a financial windfall that will be used to support terrorism.
5. No deal remains better that a bad deal.

Lake Worth to hold Special Meeting - Ways to screw up our beach

Comment Up
Commission Meeting
When: Thu, July 30, 6pm – 8pm
Where: City Hall, 7 North Dixie Highway
Discussion of Beach/Casio Invitation to Negotiate

The City of Lake Worth is STILL pursuing development at our casino property and pushing its agenda. All they continue to do is wear you down. They won't let it die or just take care of what we already have.

We are now going to hear presentations from the three companies that submitted their individual plans per the Invitation to Negotiate, a secret meeting held behind closed doors over six months. Hudson Holdings, owners of the Gulfstream Hotel, Oceanside Bar & Grill and Wave House Miami. Wave House was previously turned down by the ITN Select Committee for late document submission but we get to hear them anyway. Why would we want surfing in our pool when we are right on the ocean with the real deal.

And don't forget our Olympic Pool--the city and majority commission want to screw that up too.

A "white elephant" according to City Manager Bornstein
who just won't market it

This will be an opportunity for those residents of our city who are working for Hudson Holdings to come forward and finally admit their participation in this attempt to grab our beach. John Szerdi never admitted it during the election and a former HRPB member, who recently admitted to a resident his connection to Hudson Holdings, has not either.

Gov. Rick Scott orders flags at half-mast

Because of the shooting in Chattanooga, yesterday Gov. Rick Scott directed that U.S. flags and flags of the State of Florida be flown at half-staff until the last service member killed in Chattanooga is interred.

Obama's Security Strategy

The head of the US Northern Command confirmed to Fox News that "the pentagon has issued a directive to authorize recruiters not to be able to carry weapons at the centers but he wants them to implement new security measures like “closing the blinds at the office.”

Close the blinds? No arms? No uniforms?

No man or woman is above the law, even the President

Illegal aliens have created this problem by breaking our laws. They just don't want to hear that we are a nation of laws. What do they teach these kids in school on the American taxpayer dime? Education for illegals has cost this country $172 billion since 1996.

Who is in charge?

Comment Up
When employees go on vacation, the work load still has to be done by someone and the questions should be answered.  City Manager Bornstein is away on vacation returning Thursday and in his absence, Larry A. Johnson, our Water Utility Director is in charge of our entire city!

The city used to have an assistant city manager position but that was eliminated when Mr. Bornstein was hired.

PBSO District 14 - our expensive policing cost

Comment Up

According to the Draft Annual Operating budget for 2015-2016, the PBSO budget (page 3), costs are projected at $15,140,483.00 (MILLION) in a city that comprises approximately 36,000 residents, with 38.8% foreign born. (I'm trying to be politically correct here). The city has already told us that the PBSO will raise its cost "only" by $121,000. This computes to a cost of $420.57 per person.

The city estimates that revenues of $6,905,285 will be generated from ad-valorem taxes.  Its total revenues come to $30,957,499 (MILLIONS) that includes a carry-over of $1,026,987.  So, PBSO takes nearly one-half of our operating revenues just to try and contain all the crime we have.

Lake Worth has 32.3% living below poverty. With poverty comes slum, blight and crime. With all of that, comes 132 PBSO employees in District 14.

Humana

Comment Up

A month ago, I was notified by Humana that Hospital Corporation of America was dropping out of their Network of hospital providers and they would know by July 10.  July 10th came and went and no official word so I assumed the worst. That was serious as I was no longer eligible to use JFK Hospital through my Humana Insurance coverage unless I paid for all hospital costs myself.  JFK is less than a mile from where I live and a hospital for which  I hold in deep regard as it has cared for my family through the years and has the best heart team anywhere.

I just learned today that Humana reached an agreement with HCA this past Thursday and a notice is going out to its 1.5 million Florida customers.  The $34 billion merger deal with Humana Aetna must still survive antitrust scrutiny. It is expected to close in the second half of 2016. If it goes through, no one knows how that might affect medical premiums.

Marine Day

Comment Up
Someone sent this to me. There is no way to verify its authenticity but is is too good not to post...hope you enjoy this in honor of Marine Day

As I came out of the supermarket that sunny day, pushing my cart of groceries towards my car, I saw an old man with the hood of his car up and a lady sitting inside the car, with the door open.

The old man was looking at the engine. I put my groceries away in my car, and continued to watch the old gentleman from about twenty five feet away.

I saw a young man in his early twenties with a grocery bag in his arm walking towards the old man. The old gentleman saw him coming too, and took a few steps towards him.

I saw the old gentleman point to his open hood and say something. The young man put his grocery bag into what looked like a brand new Cadillac Escalade. He then turned back to the old man. I heard him yell at the old gentleman saying:"You shouldn't even be allowed to drive a car at your age." And then with a wave of his hand, he got in his car and peeled rubber out of the parking lot.

I saw the old gentleman pull out his handkerchief, and mop his brow as he went back to his car and again looked at the engine. He then went to his wife and spoke with her; he appeared to tell her it would be okay.

I had seen enough, and I approached the old man. He saw me coming and stood straight, and as I got near him I said, 'Looks like you're having a problem.' He smiled sheepishly, and quietly nodded his head. I looked under the hood myself, and knew that whatever the problem was, it was beyond me.

Looking around, I saw a gas station up the road, and I told the old man that I would be right back. I drove to the station and I went inside. I saw three attendants working on cars. I approached one of them, and related the problem the old man had with his car. I offered to pay them if they could follow me back down and help him.

The old man had pushed the heavy car under the shade of a tree and appeared to be comforting his wife. When he saw us he straightened up and thanked me for my help. As the mechanics diagnosed the problem (overheated engine), I spoke with the old gentleman.

When I shook hands with him earlier, he had noticed my Marine Corps ring and had commented about it, telling me that he had been a Marine too. I nodded and asked the usual question, 'What outfit did you serve with?'

He had mentioned that he served with the first Marine Division at Tarawa, Saipan, Iwo Jima and Guadalcanal ...

He had hit all the big ones and retired from the Corps after the war was over. As we talked we heard the car engine come on and saw the mechanics lower the hood. They came over to us as the old man reached for his wallet, but was stopped by me. I told him I would just put the bill on my AAA card.

He still reached for the wallet and handed me a card that I assumed had his name and address on it and I stuck it in my pocket. We shook hands all around again, and I said my goodbye's to his wife.

I then told the two mechanics that I would follow them back up to the station. Once at the station, I told them that they had interrupted their own jobs to come along with me and help the old man. I said I wanted to pay for the help, but they refused to charge me.

One of them pulled out a card from his pocket, looking exactly like the card the old man had given to me. Both of the men told me then that they were Marine Corps Reserves. Once again we shook hands all around and as I was leaving, one of them told me I should look at the card the old man had given to me. I said I would and drove off.

For some reason I had gone about two blocks, when I pulled over and took the card out of my pocket and looked at it for a long, long time. The name of the old gentleman was on the card in golden leaf and under his name was written:'Congressional Medal of Honor Society.'

I sat there motionless, looking at the card and reading it over and over. I looked up from the card and smiled to no one but myself and marveled that on this day, four Marines had all come together because one of us needed help. He was an old man all right, but it felt good to have stood next to greatness and courage, and an honor to have been in his presence.

Remember, OLD men like him gave our FREEDOM for America. Thanks to those who served and still serve, and to all of those who supported them, and who continue to support them.

America is not at war. The U.S. Military is at war. America is at the Mall. If you don't stand behind our troops, PLEASE feel free to stand in front of them!

Remember, Freedom IS NOT free. Thousands have paid the price, so you can enjoy what you have today.

LET'S DO THIS - JUST 19 WORDS: GOD OUR FATHER, WALK THROUGH MY HOUSE AND TAKE AWAY ALL MY WORRIES; AND PLEASE WATCH OVER AND HEAL MY FAMILY; AND PLEASE PROTECT OUR FREEDOMS, AND WATCH OVER OUR TROOPS, ‘WHO ARE DEFENDING THOSE FREEDOMS. AMEN.

Quote of the Day - by an Islamist terrorist

“The prominent juristic opinion in relation to this is that there is no sanctity for the lives of those people who are launching attacks against the Muslims. So they do not distinguish between Barack Obama and the civilians who put him in position of authority, and in particular those military personnel who are coming and firing at Muslims and occupying Muslim lands. … If they can target the civilians according to rules of jihad, defending themselves and bringing the war to their enemies, then definitely the army personnel have even less sanctity...

I think ambassadors will be sent to these countries to teach them about Islam as an alternative and eventually I believe the Shariah will be in command. But in the meantime I think there could be some treaty that could mean cease fire.”
