Bornstein to be recognized today

Comment Up

Well, we know where city manager, Michael Bornstein will be today--at the FSU football game.

Florida State University is 40th among all public "national" universities according to U.S. News and World Report in its 2014 edition of "America's Best Colleges."  I'll bet that when Michael Bornstein was student government president back in 1985 he had no idea that his calling would be for city manager of Lake Worth, a city that recently got a distinction as 58 in the top 100 crime cities in the U.S.

Past student body presidents will be honored at the FSU football game today.

Nuclear Ambition

False hysteria surrounding global warming is partially responsible for electing the worst president that we’ve ever had. Because the nuclear option was deployed, you can kiss an early debt deal goodbye, along with a deal on tax reform or a deal to keep government running past January...

Black on White Violence - For Oprah

Comment Up

World Net Daily has been reporting on this black on white violence for two years. The media has been silent excepting for the last week where Fox has reported it daily. Although WND is promoting a book with this video, it is important to publicize the escalating black on white violence and the Knock Out Game. President Obama needs to speak to this issue. Oprah needs to"knock herself out" by opening her mind to the fact that this is going on in many cities in this country and must stop now.  Black on white violence is very real and people are getting killed.

Terrorist Al Qaeda in America

This administration just continues to make "mistakes." Liberal policies will do that.

Several dozen suspected terrorist bombmakers, including some believed to have targeted American troops, may have mistakenly (don't you just love that word, mistakenly...probably Bush's fault) been allowed to move to the United States as war refugees, according to FBI agents investigating the remnants of roadside bombs recovered from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Panama - Surfing, Swimming, Snorkeling

Lonely Planet says, Bocas serves as a convenient base for exploring the archipelago as taxis marinos (water taxis) ply the waters, and can whisk you away to remote beaches and snorkeling sites for a few dollars. However, as most travelers learn after spending their first few days idly wandering the streets, the allure of Bocas is simply slowing down and soaking up the Caribbean vibes. Read more...

Well, some people get to do exciting things and go on vacations allowing them to get their minds off of the stuff that daily can take a toll. Surfing, swimming and snorkeling in beautiful settings in a different place, with different people and new perspectives can take all that stress away.

A few of our Lake Worth friends traveled to Panama, visiting cities that were tourist friendly.  The beaches are described as warm, sandy, gorgeous, palm tree-lined with little tiendas selling fish and beer...probably 30-40 different corals, all colors from deep yellow to lavender, every fish you can imagine, squid, rays, conch (live conch), anemones in as many varieties as the fish and corals--a snorklers dream.

Following are a few photos that were taken in Bocas Del Toro.

Morning in Bocas Del Toro

One thing that is different in that city compared to Lake Worth is that the crime rate in general in Bocas Del Toro is very low although there are incidences of property theft from homes, condos and boats - crimes of opportunity.

Dr. David Simon getting national attention

Comment Up

Dr. David Simon is now national news, his story picked up by The Huffington Post.   Loretta Sharpe just can't believe the charges as she says she has gone to Dr. Simon for 27 years and she was a "knock-out" when she was 27 years younger.  I guess Dr. Simon didn't think she was a bad girl.

Only in America

I would like to see Harry Reid and Democrats make a law that says it is ILLEGAL for ILLEGAL aliens (criminals) to protest or demand any damn thing in this country. Hey, they won't need a supermajority vote for it.  Read about it... at The Washington Times.

Nuclear Option brings unilateral government

Comment Up
Rogers-Pittsburgh Post Gazette

Another hypocritical move by Democrats and Harry Reid. The vote on the filibuster rules change went according to Party line with three Democrats voting against.

It's all become a familiar tactic with this administration. Harry Reid was against it before he was for it  So was Joe Biden when he was a Senator who said that the nuclear option is “a fundamental power grab by the majority party."  Now he likes it.  Congressional approving rating is in the toilet. The Senate is sure to follow as this vote eliminates any chance of bi-partisanship. Government has become more and more of a dictatorship by changing the rules in the middle of the game. Obama wants his own way and he got closer to it today.

The vote in the Senate regarding the rules change will prevent minority members from filibustering with the intention of blocking President Barack Obama’s judicial nominees. It is precisely the same tactic Reid tore into as an assault on democracy when Democrats were in the minority in 2005.  Senate rules required a three-fifths majority ("duly chosen and sworn" -- usually 60 votes) to end debate on a bill, nomination or other proposal (or two-thirds ("present and voting" -- 67 or fewer votes) for a change to the Senate rules), effectively allowing a minority of the Senate to block the measure through the technique of the filibuster.  Today's vote results in 51 votes to pass, not 60. If its a good law, then they should be able to get a supermajority vote.

The move is informally referred to as the "nuclear option" because it blows up any protection of minority rights.  It has been a long-standing Senate procedure. Today's rule change is the most far-reaching when Senators eliminated the two-thirds requirement for ending filibusters that has been around since the 1700's.

It's more important than ever to vote out these hypocrites in 2014.

The Wolves are Salivating by Allen West

Reprinted from Allen West Republic.

According to the New York Times, Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel is pondering “realignment” of the military budget, which means a shift in strategic posture. That’s the sort of news which should cause grave concern about our military readiness – unless, of course, you’re one of our enemies.

According to Secretary Hagel, “The Army was the principal institution fighting those two wars (Iraq and Afghanistan), as the armies normally are in land wars,” Mr. Hagel said. “So as those requirements have come down, there’s going to be an adjustment.” That view is driving a new look at the Pentagon’s traditional, even distribution of funds. Hagel further states, “I don’t think you can just make easy, simple assertions based on simple formulas — a third, a third, a third,” he said. “That might turn out to be just about right, but it may not.”

We need visionary leadership that analyzes the growing global threats instead of trying to anticipate missions based upon political preferences. Every dollar is not equal in Washington DC and the most vital mission of the federal government is to protect the American people.

I wish the Obama administration would be more concerned about military readiness and funding instead of expanding the welfare nanny-state and Obamacare. Consider what $634 million could have meant for the US military, instead of being wasted on a failed website, healthcare.gov.

Yes there is waste at the Department of Defense and there should be an audit of their accounts. However, we should be going to our Combatant Commanders and asking them what are the burgeoning threats they perceive in their geographic areas of responsibility over the next 15 years.

Then we should develop a power projection-type force –not forward-deployed — which can meet those threat-based requirements. The last thing we need is another 21st Century “Kasserine Pass” where we throw an unready Army into the field against a well resourced, trained, and battle-tested adversary. My greatest concern is that our federal government priorities are upside down and that Chuck Hagel is just a complicit puppet executing the political agenda emanating from the White House via Valerie Jarrett. President Obama gave a surrender speech last May at the National Defense University. And he fails to realize the enemy has a vote.

As Andrew McCarthy summed up in his review of the speech at the time, If I am an aggressor and I punch you in the nose, we are in a fight, even if you weren’t looking for a fight. The fight does not end just because you insist you’re not in a fight. The fight ends because you lose. Your ostentatious display of not having a quarrel with me does not convince me to stop hitting you — although it may convince me to keep hitting you. We cannot end war by pretending it isn’t happening. Don’t believe for a second our enemies aren’t watching us slowly dismantle our capability. The wolves are salivating.

Quote of the Day - Oprah Winfrey

Comment Up

Of course problem is not solved. You know, as long as people can be judged by the color of their skin, problem’s not solved. As long as there are people who still, there’s a whole generation – I say this, you know, I said this, you know, for apartheid South Africa, I said this for my own, you know, community in the south - there are still generations of people, older people, who were born and bred and marinated in it, in that prejudice and racism, and they just have to die.

 ~ Oprah Winfrey

Because of all her recent inflammatory comments, I have to admit that I was offended when Obama awarded her the Medal of Freedom yesterday which is the highest civilian award in the United States. It recognizes those individuals who have made "an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors."

Oprah is a billionaire, thanks in part to all of us older white people who supported her throughout her career, loved her, admired her and appreciated who she was and what she had attained through hard work and determination. Her skin color was never a consideration. No one thought about that. It was the person and that's how it is in America today.  But sadly we discovered that she has her own prejudices and demons that sill linger.  She believes that all of us folks who are not embracing Obama because of the direction he is taking our country should die. We shouldn't have a voice because in her eyes, she has given us all the label of "racist."

There has been an "Oprah effect" when it comes to social issues and policy in our country. She came out over 25 years ago defending gays. Her friend, Barack Obama, on the other hand was against gay marriage before he was for it. She even influenced the most powerful man on Earth. I guess she deserved that Medal of Freedom after all.

Vice Mayor Scott Maxwell

Comment Up

Just when I was thinking that no candidate for reelect was even considering or thinking about the March elections other than Amoroso, Scott Maxwell announces a fundraiser at Brogues. Unless some are being very secretive, I still have not heard of a challenger running in this city against any one of the three incumbents. Everyone is just about disgusted with local politics.  Prospective candidates and write-in candidates have until February 11th by Noon to file the proper documentation.

Liberals. They have no idea what "illegal" means.

Colorado Democratic Rep. Jared Polis wants to use illegal immigrants to boost the president’s fledgling health care system by allowing them access to the contentious network as part of an amnesty package.
