Vote Yes on Amendment 4 had its own paparazzi. The paparazzi are photographers, and in our case a videographer. They tirelessly hunt celebrities, public figures or those involved in political causes for the opportunity to photograph/film them in candid, unflattering and at times compromising moments. Daniel with Vote NO didn't lurk in the shadows but he was at three separate events where I appeared with Amendment 4 people, and as it turned out, on assignment with Citizens for Lower Taxes, the do or say anything group.
When Daniel first appeared on the scene we asked him to introduce himself and he said he was a student who was interested in filming, politics, etc. Although an odd explanation, I assumed it was part of a college assignment. He looked and acted sincere. Of course, unbeknown to us then, he had already graduated from college and was employed by the Vote No group. He also conducted interviews under false credentials. We don't begrudge him his job or his civil rights to film or interview us, just his dishonesty to achieve an end. The best and only practice when you are in business is honesty and integrity, the core of what we do and say, ingredients for success.
I viewed his first clip that has been produced and of course, it depicts some Amendment 4 advocates in the extreme with sound bites pulled for dramatization. That's what paparazzi do. He edited his first film in third grade on his parents VCR, and from that moment he says that he knew what he wanted to do for the rest of his life. What is that Daniel? Lie to achieve an end? You fit in well with your present employer.
It's funny. For some reason all these people who work for the vote NO group NEVER want to reveal who their employer really is. Why is that? Honesty and transparency are not part of their smoke and mirrors and hokum. And this proves that money over ethics prevails with most of them. Dishonesty becomes a way of normalcy in their self-motivation of greed. They want to win by hook or by crook--it doesn't matter; the only thing that matters is the money.

Red Lights don't stop American Traffic Solutions
Read Frank Cerabino's column on red-light cameras and the company, American Traffic Solutions that tried to install cameras in our city, not only once but twice.
Amendment 4 - Ballot Language
Apparently the Vote No group has no clue as to the ballot language on Amendment 4. If they did, they could not possibly object. I thought that I would print it once again so that everyone will be familiar with the language once you, Beth, La Sonna and "Ah-May" get into the voting booth.On the Ballot

TITLE: Referenda required for adoption and amendment of local government comprehensive land use plans.
BALLOT SUMMARY: Establishes that before a local government may adopt a new comprehensive land use plan, or amend a comprehensive land use plan, the proposed plan or amendment shall be subject to vote of the electors of the local government by referendum, following preparation by the local planning agency, consideration by the governing body and notice. Provides definitions.
Chamber of Commerce and Amendment 4

On August 17, Beth Johnston, President of our Lake Worth Chamber of Commerce spoke to the Commission. I was impressed with her presentation. She sounded just like a Chamber President should sound. She acted just like a president should act. She said all the right things. And she did not get political as she did on a prior occasion.

Why the Chamber is fighting Amendment 4 to this degree is a mystery to me. Why are they against the people’s right to decide what land use changes they want in their own back yard?
The Chamber’s backed PAC has recruited people all over the State from lawyers, to politicians, to developers, to big business to spout the same old line that Amendment 4 would cause chaos, confusion, and a significant economic deterioration all over
The Florida Chamber and its PAC has inflated the lie to the point of being destructive to democracy and intelligent people are following along like sheep.

The Easy Way Out

Although small numbers took the two polls and therefore the significance is questionable, the results reflect the point of views of readers here who took the time. The results are as follows:
1. The city is closing our pool for 8 months out of the year during high season to save money - do you agree? 55 took poll

2. Should LW install downtown pay-stations at 6 city parking lots? 67 took poll

As these two issues are in the Budget to be voted upon this month, will the City Commission listen to the people? Will it listen to the Finance Advisory Board? Or will it pass the budget, as is, raising fees and reducing services, always the easy way out.
The City raised EVERY fee last year plus millage. They are trying to find ways of creating revenue but instead come up with ways to tax the citizen more with red-light camera suggestions, parking fees downtown, certificate of use fees on landlords every time there is a turn-over of Lessee, increasing the parking fees at the beach by 50%, etc. Instead of collecting the tens of millions owed to us, they stick it to us.
We just spent $424,000 to get the pool ready for competition and for use. Why do we spend money like this just to shut it down? We will be spending $150,000 for maintenance during those 8 months of closure. We will also be using the pool area as a staging area for the construction of the new Casino. I can well imagine what it will look like after all that.
Wellington finished its Olympic pool in May and they are now ready for swim events. They will be taking all of our potential income and marketing its pool for national events. Read about it HERE. "It's not going to take long for swim teams in this area to hear about it, or for European swim teams to come here," said Wellington's the pool's renovation designer, Alex Lesnett of Aquatic Technologies in Oakland Park.
In the meantime, Public Works comes up with a Plan to shut down our pool and lay off workers--to install red-light cameras--to have parking pay-stations downtown and the Director gets a raise for all his efforts. Now it will up to the Commission to sort through it and hopefully make some sense and fairness out of it all. Will they listen to the people?

Downtown Paid Parking Concept in Lake Worth
This is an effective campaign for the "Vote NO" folks who are against paid parking downtown. There are just a few things that I would like to clear up for accuracy--
1. Although the idea of paid parking was discussed in a workshop, brought forward by Joe Kroll of Public Works, it has not yet been voted upon.
2. It will not be parking meters as described above but parking pay stations.
3. If voted in, the pay-stations will only be on the city owned parking lots, not the city streets.
I asked Starbucks this morning who put the poster on their bulletin board. The manager on duty had no idea. She said that it was a community bulletin board and if the message had to do with the community, then Starbucks allowed it. I then asked if I could put up a message regarding certain people in the community and that they all sucked...would that be acceptable?
So, folks, remember Starbucks if you have any message, true or false or inaccurate, regarding anything in our community. It is allowed. In the meantime, the poster was distributed by a member of our community to all the businesses downtown. Many of them have it displayed in their window and not one of them asked the distributor who he was or who he represented.

Ron Klein has come out with his 2nd attack ad against Allen West, harping on his personal finances. Although Allen West went through some personal hardship years ago, (debts that have all been satisfied) Klein continues to focus on this to an obsessive and tedious degree--the best he's got. He has been calling West a "ring winged nut." Nice, Ron.

Riviera Beach - Why Amendment 4 is a Must
Just poured a cup of coffee and sat down to read the daily newspaper. There is always something that gets me going and today it is the City of
Citizens have to go through so many hoops just because city councils do NOT do the right thing by those they represent. They are more concerned with the money they might possibly make and some find it very easy to turn over public land to a private entity. Sort of reminds me of the billboard blight that we got in
Another reminder is the Sunset parcel with a past commission wanting to allow townhouses because they would get a few thousand dollars a year in property taxes. Ruining an entire neighborhood was not in their purview or interest.
In this case, Rybovich Marina wants to lease the city public land for 25 years with a renewal clause for another 25 years and they say that the City will make $14.5 million in lease payments over the term plus $150,000 in tax payments that the City would get each year. Rybovich is so determined to take public land for its own private commercial use, that it hired some people to go around the city and distribute fliers on its behalf.

The people are always speaking out against injustices and typical city commissions never listen. Decisions that affect neighborhoods must be considered. Neighborhoods are what make up a city and it is those very same people who elect these corrupt and deaf politicians that get pummeled by their own representatives.
City Councils haven’t been representing the will and desires of those they represent and that’s why Amendment 4 is a must so that we the people can make sensible decisions when it comes to our own neighborhoods.

Your headline on the referendum in Sunday’s [Aug. 29] edition was misleading because of the usage of the small letter “t”.
Yes, the “Town” (Council) was pleased with the ruling, but the “town” (residents) were not, as indicated by the 970 people who signed the petition and by the 68 percent of the residents who indicated in a recent unbiased Preservation Foundation survey that they did not want additional condos on the island, while only 18 percent supported these intrusions.
Council President David Rosow decries the money “wasted” on legal action, but these actions would not have been taken had he and his fellow council members enforced the 1979 agreement, which previous councils spent a quarter million to validate as recently as 2007.
Rosow has declared a premature victory. Judge [David] Crow made his decision on the case, but the rule of law will be decided by the 4th District Court of Appeals. The Florida Constitution enshrines the peoples’ unqualified right to petition and can be changed only by 60 percent of the popular vote. The Florida Legislature has exceeded its authority by proscribing referendums on five or fewer parcels.
Lastly, your editorial indicates that Mr. Sidney Spiegel bears no financial responsibility for keeping the Poinciana Theater available for lease, although the 1979 covenant unequivocally required him to do so when he signed it to make millions by expanding the Slat House. Both the Town Council and the Palm Beach Daily News are misrepresenting the majority of the residents.

Only Amendment 4 can disconnect Florida from the national recession

Placed on the ballot by the Florida Hometown Democracy volunteers, Amendment 4 guarantees future growth plan changes (the precursor to radical zoning changes) must be approved by local voters instead of just politicians. Passing 4 will first bring stability to our home values, then confidence to our real estate market, and finally be the incentive for out of state fence sitters to come to Florida.
This Amendment will do more to move Florida to the front of the recovery line than any public-private giveaway. Without it we could be waiting decades at the back off that line for the rest of the nation to recover first. Can your family wait that long?
Unconvinced? Look deeper.
Ever wondered why corporations invest over $100,000 to get a politician elected to a city commissioner’s job that only pays $17,000? It’s for the Land Use Changes and other lesser giveaways. Ignoring the vacant lots and empty storefront consequences of past changes, those same politicians now want you to blame the recession. Don’t buy it. Even during a recession people retire, relocate, and move to find a better life. Now they just go to North Carolina and Tennessee.
So why are people fleeing Florida instead of coming? Because there is no confidence in our state economy or home values. Since there are no new residents it is us, the existing residents, who are stuck with the bills for extending roads, schools, and other infrastructure for vacant lots and half built homes where they were never intended to be. How did it get so bad so quickly? The wheels started to come off when giveaways like CRA's resulted in cities running low on money for municipal services and improvements, and -- worse -- low on WATER! Then throw in the fact that from 1997-2007 we had more politicians indicted on land use and zoning corruption than any other state in the nation. Add it all up; over development in sensitive areas + statewide political corruption + neighborhood intrusion by commercial and high density speculators and there you have it, and the newcomers stopped coming. We are left holding the bag while speculators made millions.
So where do we go from here? We start by taking responsibility for protecting our own communities by passing Amendment 4. The benefits are plain;
1) It provides the long-lost confidence that your home will not suddenly have a Wal-Mart next to it.
2) It assures that the commercial project that your employer starts today will not be made unprofitable by unfair giveaways to a campaign contributor tomorrow. 3) It reduces the profit in bankrolling a corrupt or incompetent local politician into office. Everyone wins with Amendment 4 - except the speculators and the politicians who serve them.
Want to talk economic development? Ask yourself who is going to bring their company, much less their family, to a place where the basic elements of a good life are not guaranteed? No one will. Roofers, retailers, restaurateurs, workers at all levels and from all walks of life have a stake in turning around our economy and recreating lost jobs. The economic crash has taught us that our homes, our neighborhoods, and our economy are just too important to leave strictly in politician’s hand. Let’s pass Amendment 4 and create a warranty on our quality of life backed up by our neighbors at the ballot box.

In the best spirit of Labor Day, these 50 Members have spent the last two years standing up for the most vulnerable of all American workers the unemployed.

These 50 not only resisted major pressures to increase the flow of foreign labor, they also attempted to reduce immigration quotas (75,000 working-age immigrants every MONTH).
And they repeatedly tried to eliminate the job magnet for illegal immigration and to push the 7 million non-agricultural illegal workers out of their jobs to make room for some of the 22 million Americans who want a job but can't find one.
A lot of politicians will stand up on Labor Day and claim they are the friends of jobless Americans. But most of them have supported policies that give out more work permits to foreign workers each month than the economy is creating new jobs.

Florida Hometown Democracy has upgraded and expanded its website. Not only does it have full explanations of how Amendment 4 empowers voters to have a say about how their communities grow, but it now offers sections that include:
FLORIDA LAND-USE CORRUPTION – A rogues gallery of corrupt politicians and developers. Eight stories to make you growl.
MEDIA CENTER – Videos you can email or put in a blog. Touching video tour of a development graveyard, with paved roads, electric lines, and house stakes – but deserted.

Marco Rubio's father passed away Saturday Night
MARCO SAID THIS: "My father knew hard work and struggle from very early in his life. His mother died when he was only 9 years old. The day after his mother was buried he went to work with his father and did not stop working until he was 78 years old.
"He was by far the most unselfish person I have ever known, always focused on others, and never on his own well being. He was especially determined to provide his children opportunities he himself never had.
"My dad worked as a street vendor, security guard, apartment building manager and crossing guard. But for most of his life he was a bartender, and by all accounts a great one. But his greatest success came from the two most important jobs he ever had: husband and father.
"He was very proud of my public service. And over the last 18 months he became an expert channel surfer, constantly searching for my next television interview.
"I was blessed to be raised by a world class father. And I thank God for allowing my father to live long and healthy enough to see that the sacrifices he made for us were not in vain."
