Florida property tax reform: 2026 could be pivotal year
State leaders are pushing major cuts, but local officials warn it could impact police, fire, emergency servicesHowever, local government officials are raising concerns about how they would maintain critical services without property tax revenue.
Lake Worth Beach Mayor Betty Resch was even more direct in her criticism.
"Do (Florida lawmakers) want us to hold bake sales to make up the lack of funds? Should we have a garage sale?" Resch said in March. "I just don't understand where they think the money is going to come from."
The tension escalated in December when Florida Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia accused Palm Beach County of overspending by $344 million.
Palm Beach County Administrator Joseph Abruzzo disagrees.

What about reducing your budget Lake Worth. The City raised more money because property values went up. We needed DOGE.
Current proposals in Florida to eliminate property taxes are focused specifically on homesteaded primary residences, meaning non-homesteaded properties would still be subject to these taxes.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and various House leaders have put forward several plans, all of which target tax relief for owner-occupied homes (homesteads). The general consensus among these proposals is that properties such as rental units, vacation homes, and commercial real estate would continue to pay property taxes, and may even face higher rates to compensate for the lost revenue from homesteads.

Great idea, we need lower taxes, the elected are being piggish with all the tax money they take in, they are greedy and piggish!
We are thinking about leaving Florida if they do not lower our property taxes!
Bye. DeSantis is trying to eliminate them. You could move to Alabama where it's 0.38%
You're going to leave Florida! is that a threat? Who cares if you leave Florida. If you couldn't afford the taxes, you shouldn't have purchased the house. That's a very simple equation. So you're going to pay a Real Estate Agent 6% of the sale price, and you think that's a good idea?
To anonymous who attempted to post "And then you all wonder why no one wants to look at this blog anymore or write comments, you two are nasty! Bye!"
I equate the comments in not the same vein as viewership. It's the same on Facebook,,,might have a few comments or likes but the viewership could be in the hundreds and at times, the thousands. The viewership on this blog for December was 133,022.
If we could see each of the services Lake Worth spends money on, my guess is that there are a great many that a majority of the voters would consider improper and would cancel immediately. With the bogus services cancelled, Lake Worth would be financially just fine. So, who can get a printout of what we spend money on, and help to get this dissected into good expenses and improper expenses that need termination?
Maybe you could request it from the Governor's Office. Just off the top, I would think that paying a salary to the Governor, and maintaining the Governor's mansion and security would be a pretty big part of it. God knows, Lake Worth looks bad enough, what would it look like with fewer dollars to work with.
It looks to me like the Governor is trying to beef up his support for a run for President.
