Lake Worth getting ready for March 2016 Election

Comment Up

Our next election will be held on March 15, 2016.  It will cost the city of Lake Worth the same amount as last year, $36,400. As previously reported, all three incumbents have reapplied and will run again for reelection:  Scott Maxwell in District 1, Mayor Pam Triolo and Andy Amoroso District 3.

Tonight this resolution 56-2015 is on Consent Agenda agreeing to the use of equipment and election services with the Supervisor of Elections as well as designate the Municipal Canvassing Board--the City clerk, the Internal Auditor and one person from the legal field, either a retired judge or attorney with knowledge of constitutional laws. Earlier in the year, Glen Torcivia chose Diana Lewis former judge of the 15th Judicial Circuit Court to be the third person on Lake Worth's Canvassing Board.

If you recall during the General Obligation Bond Referendum on August 26, 2014 where the city lost by 25 votes, there was an uproar within the city government and bad feelings developed between the City and Susan Bucher, Supervisor of Elections. Bucher was a part of the Canvassing Board.

Our city complained about this referendum being defeated, losing by 50.40% of the vote, and went after Susan Bucher, poll volunteers and those at some of our precincts for not counting 14 votes because of various issues like not signing their ballot. Also the city didn't like having to pay a charge of $400 for copies and refused to pay the SOE's legal fees.

So later, Bucher said "get lost" and the city developed its own canvassing board. I would be a lot happier if Susan Bucher was part of that board.

I don't like the idea of anyone employed by the city being on this board for the obvious reasons. These people even went after the judges who were counting ballots and accused them of a crime.

It is a thankless job unless you are getting a pay off or pay back somehow.

Don't worry 12:10 the naysayers have their next batch of puppet know noting do nothing candidates lined up. They've learned over time to just wait until the last minute to file for candidacy. That way there's not enough time to find out the candidate is an illiterate lifeguard, an unemployed foreclosed hypocrite or an unemployed, unemployable anarchist.
They also learned their lies work a lot more effectively when there's not much time to research the lies they tell door to door.

Anonymous above--
It was John Szerdi who prompted the vote to change the filing date to 3 months before the election instead of 1 month so that he could determine whether or not he had to actually campaign and work to get elected. So, actually people are not waiting for the last minute to file.
The lifeguard was a college graduate and a teacher. The "unemployed foreclosed hypocrite" had a masters degree, was NOT foreclosed upon and made money with her company. The unemployed anarchist, well I don't remember what she did but she was ELECTED FOR TWO TERMS until she decided not to run again.
The ONLY LIES were from your side of politics--that's the way it's ALWAYS BEEN. I have observed both sides for 10 years now and I can say that the side you are so negative about pride themselves on truth and facts.

Lynn, I've heard Cara and Joann (and lord help us, Katie?) intend to run - and if so, they are indeed going to wait to the last minute to declare. it's a strategy as mentioned in a previous post. Not saying it's dirty, just a strategy.

that group is very like-minded and very straight forward about their views on illegal immigrants (they should all be legal), zero tolerance for development (remember the protest against Publix?), re-zoning residential to agriculture so people can have livestock in their yard, the homeless, etc.

Where is the happy medium? Why are the choices only one extreme or another?
So frustrating..

I like people who speak out. I find none of the people you mentioned "extreme."

Katie is one of my best friends and she is an ultra conservative. She is 100% against illegal immigration and not afraid to speak to it and the horrible situation we have in this city and the country. She has already spoken to the Homeless situation we have here. I can't recall one commissioner doing anything about it in the past.

There was NO protest against Publix. That is a lie that has spread and is out of control. A few questions were asked of them on their policies that did not set well with a commissioner. I objected to the $500,000 of taxpayer money that was given to this billion dollar corporation and the fact they had a Publix in Lake Wroth less than one mile away.

It is untrue about your "zero tolerance on development" statement. We want the city to honor the vote on heights, stop changing the LDR's to allow more heights everywhere imaginable. No one ever suggested rezoning Residential to Agriculture so that people could have chickens. Where do you come up with this stuff?

Lynn,

I didn't know where to post this but I just thought since you are essentially the only voice for the city of Lake Worth Employees with your Blog Posts that the IBEW won again and all the employees that are attached to that Union will have October 12th 2015 (Columbus Day) paid holiday off & all the Employees with PEU lost AGAIN and they all have to all be at work as normal on Monday. This is once again how the city shows favoritism and completely disrespects and ignores their personnel. So not only did IBEW win the 4% Raise they also won Holiday's off while on every front the PEU Lost =(. Morale just keeps diminishing with the employees, it’s heartbreaking.

Lynn Anderson said...

The Commission did NOT amend the list of observed holidays to include Columbus day last night because the other two unions have not yet finalized their contract.

If you call city hall and ask they will tell you that IBEW will not be present monday and the PEU employees have to be.

Cara Jennings wanted home owners to be able to have chickens.
Joann Golden did protest against Publix, accusing them of slave labor.
They both want illegal immigrants legalized.

Lynn Anderson said...

Perhaps, can't remember although I believe that several people have spoken out in favor of a chicken or two. Don't know about legalizing criminals. If they are for that, that is one thing for which I highly disagree. Build the wall. :)

I just called the city hall out of curiosity. Wow, the anonymous poster at 2:48pm is right. Damn its like the city of lake worth is trying to divide its employees. Sorry guys... I don't understand how some can get a paid day off but others cant? Don't they all work for the same employer, the city of lw?
