With the heat index expected to feel like 110^ today, the beach was not that crowded at lunch time. I was at Benny's and wanted to get a feel of what a few commissioners feel when they see the facade at our pier building.
It was said last night that it was not particularly "family friendly" noting the 6 foot bar on the front patio deck where someone can sit and order a Coke or a beer. Paaleeeeeze! The beach is a place to enjoy by all people, not just people with families who have some hang-up on an outside bar sit-down area. Little kids are not going to even know what a bar is and who cares really?

You are so right Lynn in your observation. Bennys has been a fixture at the beach since I have been here for over 15yrs. Not only has it been maintained and cared for, not to mention they have great breakfast ,but in all those years of going to the beach there I have never seen an incident at the bar. I am not saying that there are none, just none I have witnessed. Bennys has been a good friend to Lake Worth in their sponsorship of worthy causes.Something I can not recall John Gs ever doing. I may be wrong I just can't remember seeing their name as a sponsor. It would not surprise me to find out that potential tenants(resturant portion) of the new casino are putting pressure on the city to control competition. After all the new tenants will have to pay market share and to have a thriving resturant across the road may seem like a tuff row to hoe.Maybe the city is trying to even the playing field.
Not ever being a parent, I suppose you look at things much differently. I do not believe it was anything more than that. The Commission is looking for the best mix of tenants and want to ensure that there is a variety there. An interersting and affordable variety of merchants will attract a lot more people. Benny's is a fixture and as long as they pay market rent, they will be staying there for a long time I would suspect.
A bar at the beach? I'll drink to that!
If I were Benny, I'd turn everything around and put the bar upstairs on the East end with live music that could be heard at least two condo's down. Girls in bikinis dancing on the tables and a vibrant Happy Hour that could compete with The Old Key Lime House.
Saturday nights would be Jazz on the Water with wine tastings and arts along the length of the pier.
But that's if I were Benny...
But Rachel couldn't afford to take her family there. So never mind.
Sounds like a heck of a lot of fun to me--but more than likely against Code. No joke.
OK, the girls in bikinis would have to stay on the floor and dance there.
Code issue solved.
Family Friendly? "The Most Magical Place on Earth" Disney World has places where adults can enjoy an adult beverage in the parks. Where on earth is there anyplace that provides a better family experience than Disney? I remember taking my son, when he was young to Chucky Cheese and they served beer & wine, (thank goodness). Something is not passing the sniff test here!
