This was a great day and I commend the Neighborhood Associations for all their hardwork--for their handmade rafts, the kayack races won by Jay Nuszer from Downtown Jewel, the Dunk Tank and more.
I stayed long enough to see Rachel Waterman and Paul Blockson get dunked and then the heat overcame me. Disappointed that I did not get to see Chris Mcvoy, Susan Stanton, and Scott Maxwell, Karri Casper who was one of the organizers said--Scott won the costume contest for the dunk tank. He was totally over the top! He had on this full Speedo like thing that wrestlers wear and this fluorescent green swim cap. I thought I was going to die laughing. Susan Stanton was a great sport. I don’t think she spent much time out of the water. Chris McVoy was really good with the kids. It was terrific of all the “dunkies” to participate. Katie was great too. She really helped out."
We came back for the fireworks and were surprised that they were not over the water as they usually are. If we had known, we would have positioned ourselves a little more strategically as one big tree was in our way. It was estimated by one observer to be around 3,000 people there. That figure could be off by thousands. The fireworks display finally started around 9:10 pm and enjoyed by all. A special thanks to Kathleen Margoles, assistant to the city manager, for arranging this. I saw her at the raft races as well. There was one little kid near us who was sitting on his father's shoulders who kept saying "Wow" on every display. We were all wowed, young and old.
I can't help but share this observation--Diversity is something that some brag about when describing Lake Worth but at the fireworks, very few of the attendees spoke English. When trying to speak with any one of them, their children had to be the interpreter. You do not realize what being a Sanctuary City means until you witness an event such as this where there is only one English speaking person out of 100. None voted. We asked. It was a sea of immigrants not even knowing the significance of Independence Day and only there for the fireworks display. A few with me said, "I feel like a stranger in my own country."

Thanks to Commissioner Scott Maxwell for the fireworks. City staff did a great job with the arrangements once Commissioner Maxwell found the money for the fireworks.
Ask Ramiccio why the Chamber is no longer paying for it. Isn't Scott the liaison?
Have you taken up your concerns about Lake Worth being a sanctuary city with the best commission ever? After all they are responsible for helping Lake Worth become THE sanctuary city in PB county and now your candidate for mayor promises more of the same. Have you asked her about that?
LYNN, THANK YOU FOR THE FABULOUS SLIDE SHOW!!! YOUR PICTURES PERFECTLY CAPTURED THE JOY OF THE DAY AND I LOVED SEEING SO MANY OF THE DELIGHTFUL FACES OF THOSE WHO MAKE UP THIS COMMUNITY. BUT, YOUR BEAUTIFUL FACE WAS MISSING - WE SHOULD HAVE BORROWED YOUR CAMERA! YOU TAKE WONDERFUL PICTURES... THAT MOON IS A GORGEOUS SLIVER NOW. LYNN, IN YOUR ARTICLE, YOU WERE SPOT ON ABOUT THE CROWD AT THE FIREWORKS DISPLAY.
This commission is NOT responsible for Lake Worth being a Sanctuary City. Look to the federal government, the churches and all those who feed into this open border policy and do not enforce our laws. Ask the PBSO why they can't ask these illegals if they are illegal. Ask the President of the U.S why he doesn't get an immigration policy that makes sense. Ask Adam Putnam why he wants to make an exception to federal law allowing illegals to work in agriculture in our State. Ask yourself why you don't blog about this deplorable situation.
DEAR ANONYMOUS, I AM NOT SO SURE RACHEL WATERMAN PROMICES THE SAME. SHE HAS A MIND OF HER OWN.
P.S. I forgot your erroneous statement regarding Waterman and for illegals. Untrue as is everyone on your side of politics. You continue to get by on lies and bull.l
Thanks to EVERYONE who volunteered their time and made this one great event! The people are the reason that Lake Worth is such a unique place!Katie
Why are there so many immigrants in Lake Worth vs Boca, WPB, Jupiter, Wellington, Delray etc? Oh, those cities don't have the BCE.
Who says there are not a lot of immigrants in those cities? You? hahahaha, good one. Are you too a Democrat that sits idly by as your elected offiials in Congress support illegal immigration? Give us the numbers since you made a blatant charge.
"Delray Beach, Florida, has become the US town with the largest percentage Haitian population in the United States. More than just sheer numbers, the Haitian community also grew geographically, economically, and socially; extending itself while maintaining a relatively low profile in the community it has adopted as its own. This growth has paralleled the incredible economic turnaround of Delray Beach as a municipality. It represents the awakening of a community which for a long time has lived in the shadow of its larger neighbor in Miami. The impressive growth has also brought about some strains within the Haitian community and in the community’s interactions with the other residents of Delray Beach.
Get rid of some of your liberal left politicians like Alcee Hastings. Alcee Hastings has one of the worst records on immigration in all of Congress. Representative Alcee Hastings actively encourages, and may even be helping, illegal aliens to enter our country and flout our laws and is a threat to this nation. Next time you see Dan Liftman, tell him that.
