God, it's bad enough when we have Moe, Larry and not so Curly, candidates running for Lake Worth Mayor (a possible tragedy for our City because one is a Socialist who hates us all, one is, well, you know, and the other is someone who knows NOTHING and hates the rest of us who do), and then we have to think about national problems that are greatly affecting us all. Foreclosures, unemployment, off-shoring and the national debt rapidly approaching $15 TRILLION DOLLARS. On a local level it is the Unions and run-away retirement benefits.
We have slap downs of our city manager and our city commission and then from the same little herd, praises for PBSO, the biggest political entity in Palm Beach County that had screwed us in a Contract with benefits that are unaffordable. Lisa Maxwell gave her two minutes one evening, threatening the entire commission with a Recall if they did not keep the PBSO, all the while eyeing the middle chair. Of course, she had no idea of the costs involved or gave any solutions. Some fire and police employees retire and are rehired back by the City making small fortunes, all for our safety at a gigantic cost.
Now the herd is complaining about the Fire, and honestly or dishonestly, believe that having PB County Fire Rescue for 2 years when we had our own Fire Department for 111 years, is better. For every dollar the Fire is paid in salary, we taxpayers of Lake Worth, pay them $1.72 (172%) in retirement benefits when the taxpayers are lucky to get a matching 3% in their 401(k) from their employers. They are the same moaners who dream up stuff just to complain. These are the same cry-babies that come to City Hall and have fits on a monthly basis, supporters of Larry and not too Curly.
Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke's efforts to stop the leaky economy have been unsuccessful. His latest effort of quantitative easing — known as QE2 — is running out, and the bubble he created is deflating faster than one of The Three Stooges' helium-filled cakes. Read more at Personal Liberty Alerts. Perhaps it is time to get rid of The Federal Reserve?
And it certainly is time, in just 5 days, to elect a Mayor who knows her stuff, someone who has been the subject of a disgusting personal attack from some of her opponents who have been knocking on doors telling the most vile of fantasies..."anarchists," "chickens" and all. These are the tactics of the National Republican Party as well as the Democratic Party that really takes the prize. We don't need that either in Lake Worth--their money influencing elections or their sleazy lies.
Let's put it all to rest on June 28.

I can't take it anymore!
The ONLY "solution" your candidate, Waterman, has proposed to raise revenue is to go after more grant money from the government! Something that your favorite Congressman, Allen West, is completely opposed to! How do you justify the hypocrisy?
Government grants are declining at tremendous rates and competition is higher than ever. It could be YEARS before any application for funds is approved. What is the City supposed to do in the interim? Your candidate has no clue about economic development that doesn't come in the form of a handout from the Federal government.
You want to abolish the Federal Reserve? Do you have any idea what role they perform in the economy? Can you please tell me from where you received your degree in finance and economics? Or does reading a few tea party blogs make you qualified to have that opinion?
I cannot believe you would disparage a firefighter who takes a second job while earning a pension. A pension, I might add, he EARNED while working years to protect the citizens of Lake Worth. How dare you?! Why should he lose his benefits because he decides to work? You don't know his particular situation. He could have a wife who has cancer and hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical bills, kids he wants to put through college or maybe he just doesn't want to sit around on his ass all day reading blogs so he decided to get out and be productive. Who are you to judge? Please don't tell me you are a Lake Worth taxpayer, because we have all seen your property tax bill and know you pay nothing.
I think I will just vote for Javier then, he seems to be the least of all the evils running for mayor. God help us all and this great little city.
It is amazing to me that you believe everything good about Waterman who has absolutely no tract record of ever accomplishing anything. And you believe everything negative about Tom and Lisa. The building at the beach that you wanted so much to keep is coming down in a pile of ruble and John G's is gone for good. No response from you. No one candidate is perfect and Lisa and Tom both have positives. I guess you just can't see reality. Waterman has no business being mayor of this city with her limited experience and her personal financial mess.
Hey Bob, whoever you really are--Hope you are out being productive instead of reading blogs all day long. If you worked for me I would fire your butt. You could be retired as I am and one who did not get a cushy Union pension from taxpayers and now lives within my means and not being a drag on society. Or perhaps you are not the one double dipping at taxpayer expense.
Bob, do you have a degree in Finance? If so, please expound.
You people brag about $23 million from the government and that's perfectly cool with you. The CRA has existed on grants. Also, the City has received many grants. They are there. The State gets federal money. What about all of the Stimulus? Do you want us to just pass them up Bob?
We know two candidates are bought and paid for and are willing to obligate more costs and expense to the Pensions. They are for sale in regards to the LW Herald endorsements. Ramiccio has a record of bullying opponents and downtown merchants, enriching himself at the Chamber. Maxwell was always for developers when she was on the P&Z and never considered homeowners and neighborhoods.
A Retirement benefit should be paid on the day that person retires. If he comes back to work for the same city that is paying the retirement, then he is no longer retired. Benefits should stop until such day he no longer is working. That is what retirement is.
Yes, no one is attacking someone making a living just taking advantage of a retirement system that is no longer sensible.
From an old Union guy
I work for a company that does not even match my 401k. I have to pay a big chunk for medical, in fact I didn't even have any for years until I found this job. I don't like that union workers believe that the world owes them a living and that the rest of us have to pay through the nose for them. No one owes me a living but myself and my hard labor.
Gary
As a taxpaying resident of this city, I am going to vote for the person who will do the best for ME. Not the unions. Not the employees. Not for THEMSELVES( Hello Tom Ramiccio)! Lake Worth is on the right track. we are no longer for sale(hello Tom Ramiccio). I will be voting for who I think is the best choice for Lake Worth and for my family- Rachel Waterman.Katie Mcgiveron
To that first poster above, pretty nasty stuff, Bob. You are one of those guys that think everyone should be paying the same tax whether poor or wealthy I suppose? Go sit on your boat and get that tan while the rest of us struggle to pay our taxes. If you want people to pay tax, then eliminate the double homestead. Everyone knows that Lake Wroth property took a big hit. You want affordable housing, that's what you get. Picking on senior citizens does not become you either. Do you beat your mother, Bob?
Bob, what does your candidate propose? Who is it? Lisa Lies. Ramiccio Whoa. He wants to sell our elec company without any facts at all? Lisa complains about the Budget and knows nothing about it. Where are the solutions from your candidate, Bob?
I was at the debate at the church. They had a question on education or they touched on it. Waterman has a Master degree in Community Economic Development and graduated Summa Cum Laude. Rammiccio, her challenger, had trouble graduating from high school.
As far as owning versus renting here in Lake Worth, large corproations mostly rent their property. We have 3 groceries in Lake Worth that rent and then consider JC Penney, Sears, etc. that all rent. Who can say that anyone ever running for a commisison seat has not rented? Why is this some sort of a negative?
Next thing this blogger does not set the tax rates. If there are people now paying little or no taxes, it is because of the voters who voted in Save Our Homes and a senior exemption for those elderly on poverty or less incomes. Do you want to tax them to death so that they can become a bigger burden with all of you picking up the tab for food stamps, housing, etc? Start directing yur anger where it belongs.
Bob doesn't know what he's talking about. Just another typical person from Lake Worth? Or is this Lisa? Allen West is all for watching our spending and has been critical of Washington in this regard. He is not against grant money and in fact secured the grant for the airport in Ft. Lauderdale.
