As I gazed up at the sky this evening I saw the most unusual formation. At first I thought it was a sky-writing plane but after looking in all other directions, the clouds were all wispy like these.
Cirrus clouds are thin, wispy clouds blown by high winds into long streamers. They are considered "high clouds" forming above 6000 m (20,000 ft). Cirrus clouds usually move across the sky from west to east. They generally mean fair to pleasant weather.

Hi Lynn,
We had the same "clouds" at sunset up here in South Carolina this evening. Actually what you saw were "con-trails" created by aircraft http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contrail
Under certain atmospheric conditions they can really stand out.
My father flew Bombers in WWII, and hated it when conditions were right for contrails. It made it easier for German fighters to find them and they could hide in these vapor trails and sneak up on a bomber from behind, hidden in the contrail.
Hope all is well. I listened to the Commission meeting Tues night but gave up at about 11:00. Woof!
Tom
