Andy got it Right! - Volusia County

The Florida black bear as well as the Florida panther are well on their way to extinction if developers have anything to say about it.

On September 5, I wrote about Miami Corporation that owns 55,000 acres in central Volusia and Brevard Counties that wants to build 29,600 residences (more than I originally reported) as well as office, retail and possible industrial on these acres.

Scared about Florida Hometown Democracy, the Volusia County Council just voted favorably for this development which will now go on to the DCA. Councilman, Andy Kelly, cast the lone vote “no.” E-mail Councilman Kelly at E-MAIL and tell him how much you appreciate his vote in spite of the unfavorable outcome.

We feature Councilman Kelly today as an elected official who has shown responsibility in this overgrown and overbuilt State and who recognizes that over-building and density is part of the problem and diminishes our quality of life.

This vote by Volusia is the prime reason why residents should be in charge of where they live, not a few city council members. Until the people can vote on Comprehensive Plan changes, we will no longer have an affordable State. Forget about the Florida black bear, our Florida State animal the Florida Panther or even the Gopher tortoise--they will be long gone.

Vote YES for Amendment 4 next November. This is a check and balance that will provide voters with the veto power over land-use changes by local officials that they feel are not in the interest of the greater public.
