Google’s Mystery $13 Million Payment To Fact Checkers Revealed
A global network of fact-checkers “on the front lines of the fight against disinformation” will receive $13.2 million from Google and YouTube, the companies announced on Tuesday.The International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN), which consists of 135 fact-checking groups from 65 countries and over 80 languages, will be supported by a $12 million Global Fact Check Fund, which is the cornerstone of the investment. The Fund will debut in early 2023.
According to Google and YouTube, this is by far the largest donation they have ever received for fact-checking.
The 96 groups that have been embraced and are regarded to be under the IFCN’s fact-checking guidelines will receive the majority of the funding, according to the IFCN. PolitiFact, Reuters, Snopes, and The Washington Post Fact Checker are a few of them which we all know are left-leaning.
