"I call the question" - More lousy Lake Worth Politics

Comment Up

"I want to call the question." That statement is the Vice Mayor Scott Maxwell's latest bully tactic when he just doesn't want to hear the other side of any argument...when he wants to stop Christopher McVoy or even Ryan Maier from uttering an opinion. He is, once again, abusing his power and to use the latest buzz word of Shelley Vana, urinating on democracy, open debate and transparency.

See Robert's Rules question 11. The attitude is--I got elected by an overwhelming majority so screw you and the horse you rode in on. Passing ordinances/laws that will force all other persons to conform to the Trio's ideas of what is good for them is corruption of power. Calling the question was used last night only to be rude as Maxwell's mind was made up on the Land Development Regulations as was the rest of the Trio's. Mr. Maxwell doesn't care about that. His fans love him.  It's as if he's been taking lessons from Trump.

This Trio does not want to waste time listening to anyone, certainly not the public. They only want to listen to their own bully voices. They are rude and obnoxious and to a big fault. Generally, the presiding officer waits until it's clear no one else wants to speak to the issue; calling out "Question" without first obtaining the floor is just plain rude. But more than that, it is obnoxious politics.

Last night before the meeting resumed after a break, I thanked the mayor for conducting a cordial meeting. Within minutes that all changed. Within a flash, she became agitated. I have never witnessed a more rude body of elected officials.

Thank Lynn for the news and update on what is going on at city hall. What a sin. The bullies never stop with their stuff do they? Are they all Tauruses? I bet some of them are, they tend to be bulls.

Why is it that so many bosses, administrators, so called leaders, and politicians let the power go to their head and bully like this. There is no reasoning with them. They will not listen, they will not do the will of their constituents nor care or respect us. I am so down on these pathetic souls.

Big money may have put them in office this time, but I bet they never get re-elected ever again. Their hate and bullying will not last forever. It can't.

We need to pray for scott, pam and andy. They need a lot of prayers. We all need to learn not to get caught up in all their venom and webs, they are nasty egomaniacs. So often we let our egos take hold and it causes so many problems. Our poor city and good people, to have to put up with all this crap from them. Don't we deserve better?

It's power politics, pure and simple. They won, they've got way more money from campaigning than their salaries, and they're doing the job they were paid to do--BY THEIR DONORS. That is who they serve, including Mr. Bornstein. I am very sorry his father is sick, but both Chris and Ryan do not get the same briefing that the gang of 3 does. They, like the rest of us, have to find out what they are up to by reading it in the Post. And they have quite the bully cheering section. Mr. Easton sat in front of me, and when Chris spoke he turned to me to smirk and make the face intimating that anything Chris says is just a waste of time. I guess he was lacking his usual bevy of front row thinkalikes. Assuming I would agree. Eejits! Eejits with the power.
Scott's arrogance and lack of respect knows no bounds. When Jo Ann Golden was speaking about the fact that lobbying by our Commissioners to the County over putting the Braves in a county park may be inappropriate, he was making faces, rolling his eyes, and just about laughing out loud. They don't care how anything looks, and this is his signature move--giving away public lands to private wealthy entities. Did you know that up to a million dollars may be given as a "finders fee" for suckering the next town into financing the next stadium for these ball clubs??
It's government of, by, and for the insiders. I am embarrassed that this is the caliber of government in my city. We have a man who speaks some 5 or 6 languages, is eminently known for the quality of his work in ecology and hydrology, and is routinely denigrated for representing us well at city commission meetings. And Ryan is attacked for the same reason, as well as the fact that he was duly elected over John Szerdi who lost for insider trading behind closed doors. They cannot accept any other opinion, as their group opinion is all that matters. I really think both Chris and Ryan should get special awards for continuing to be conscientious in performing their elected roles in the face of repeated obvious disrespect and bullying.

i agree with what you said but what you didn't say was that this commission is getting worse than anyone could ever have imagined.

@8:53...thanks for your spot-on assessment of this Trio.
@8:46--we do, indeed, deserve better. I am totally ticked off that they have zero respect towards other elected officials and the public.

Lynn the only issue I have with your article is you put Maxwell's face on the wrong end of the monkey, please change it so that it makes sense.

I think it's time that we requested drug testing be done on Pam Triolo. She looked like she was swinging from the rafters at last nights meeting.I agree, Maxwell's face is on the wrong end of the APE !

Can't someone "call the question" when debate is going nowhere? McVoy sometimes goes on and on with virtually no end in sight. Someone has to "call the question".

Anyone can be rude and this commission ALWAYS is. Listen to the tape. Maxwell called the question immediately on the LDR's. He called it right after he found out Chick fil A could have drive-thrus north or south of the 2 block area.

Let's not get carried away defending this. Debate "going nowhere" is subjective. And no, they shouldn't call the question until debate is finished.

Seriously?? Chick-Fil-A is a hateful homophobic organization. No surprise that our fat-assed, artery-clogged trio of fucktards voted in approval of these deep-fried bigots. Way to go Andy. Obvious why the narcissistic PBC (fake) HRC supported these bloated morons. Let's invite bigotry and hatred into Lake Worth every chance we get.

Fox. Your fave.

Lynn, doesn't Robert's Rules require that calling the question be voted on and approved by a majority and THEN the agenda item can be voted on? And if the question is called, doesn't the agenda item have to be approved by 75% of the voting board? That would mean that the item failed, no?

Nothing was done right here, anonymous @12:57. I suggested, in writing, to Glen Torcivia that we needed a parliamentarian. This commission does anything it wants.
And yes, it needed a majority vote to call the question and end debate.

Next, don't know what you're talking about with your attacks against chick Fil A. The COO came out personally against Gay marriage and the Gay Agenda went after him for his personal beliefs. Then, the company was maligned by gay groups. So, who is being HATEFUL?
