Historic Board member's former house coming before the Board

Comment Up

On Wednesday, May 8, 2015, Loretta Sharpe (Grantor) transferred her legal rights of her property located at 1311 S. Palmway to Geoffrey Mintz (Grantee) for $315,000. Now this property is coming before the Historic Board.
G- NEW BUSINESS -1--HRPB Project Number 15-00100152: Consideration of a Certificate of Appropriateness (COA) for roof replacement to the subject property located at 1311 South Palmway, PCN# 38-43-44-27-01-067-0101. The subject building was constructed in 1945 and the property is a contributing structure within the South Palm Park Local Historic District.
The new owner wants a better/different roof on the breezeway and is once again coming before the Historic Resources Preservation Board where Ms. Sharpe is a member. He appears this Wednesday to propose replacing the existing 3-tab asphalt shingle roof on the rear “enclosed breezeway” on the south side of the property with a Boral Barcelona 900 series low-profile concrete Stile.  Staff says that what he proposes (from a 3-tab asphalt shingle to a low-profile concrete S-tile) is inappropriate.

Staff has given him several options in the past but he has submitted his justifications for a concrete roof and is looking for a favorable vote. There are diverse types of roofs in the neighborhood and this would only be seen by the neighbor directly to the south of the property.

I wonder if Ms. Sharpe has to recuse herself from any decision.

Why should she recuse herself? She no longer has an ownership interest in the property, and is not financially or otherwise impacted. I find this type of innuendo to be inappropriate, and all too familiar when it comes to Lake Worth blogs. We all need to sit back, be reasonable, learn to work together and stop wasting time on baseless accusations and hyperbole.

In an ideal world, that would be true, anonymous at 9:23 but being an emotional person, there could be an emotional interest.
No one gave a baseless accusation unless you want to interpret it that way.

There was no hyperbole here anony 9:23. Nothing was exaggerated and there was no baseless accusation,,,the only one using hyperbole is you.Grow up and get a life.

I would rather bite my own ass off than live in an " historic" neighborhood in Lake Worth and have to deal with the unelected Nazi board members we have here !

I heard Loretta is going to buy 12 units at Lake Osborne Estates and rent them to Canadians, its doable with $300K.

Regardless of whether or not Loretta has a financial stake in this home, she obviously has a business relationship with someone coming before this board. She should recuse herself to avoid the appearance of any inappropriate vote. Frankly it could go both ways, she could feel positive towards this person or she may feel negative based on their past business relationship.

So an unelected, unaccountable, unwatched board THINKS this "is inappropriate"!
Who do they think they are? No one liked it when Pres Bush declared himself the "Decider" and I like it even less when our gov set up to protect our property rights abuses them w/their opinions - opinions are like azzholez - we all have them but to express it openly against the sole purpose of the gov is unacceptable and should be disbanded for obvious reasons. If it's so great let us elect the new unknown government!

Anonymous at 10:36...obviously you gave a flying F**k as you commented.
You don't find it the least bit interesting that a property owned by an historical resources preservation board member is coming before that board for an important decision and Loretta sits on it? I guess you don't think that politics is alive and well in Lake Worth considering all the decisions she has made regarding the heights amendment as an example or Hudson Holdings or...there is a slew of them.
So, flying F or not, it is important. You can't pretend that you did not have an emotional interest in a house that you had lived in since 1987, unless, of course, you are a zombie. :)

@11:16 with your cute comment...Loretta is not buying anything as the bank was involved in this transaction. As far as sober homes go, I heard one was going up NEXT DOOR TO 604 N K ST.

In other areas where I have lived there is something called "conflict of interest" and the understanding is that if you are acting ethically you do recuse yourself from participating in decisions where this may applicable. I see this completely ignored in Lake Worth, from Commissioners bringing in their business connections, to board members not disclosing their employment with those they are ruling on. Just because it has become a habit doesn't mean it is right. Does anyone still believe the ITN's purpose was to be "creative" rather than to hide a favored private developer's plans that would, and have, created a huge backlash against nondisclosure in government?
