Death Panels are coming

Comment Up

Everyone remembers all the ribbing Sarah Palin took when she first mentioned "death panels" back in 2009. She charged that the then-proposed Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act would create a "death panel" of bureaucrats who would decide whether Americans—such as her elderly parents or child with Down syndrome—were "worthy of medical care." The liberals and Obama supporters ran her into the ground...treated her like a total moron.

Welllllllllllllllll--death panels are coming under ObamaCare, so says Paul Krugman of Princeton in a speech at a synagogue. See 2 minutes and 20 seconds into the video.  All you elderly folks out here, your quality of life might be down the toilet, literally, because of ObamaCare.

Obama's solution? “I happen to be a proponent of a single-payer, universal health care plan … Everyone in, nobody out.” Even the other communist, Harry Reid, admitted that the Affordable Care act was a transitional step towards a single payer system. And that's how our country, not just healthcare, is going--

I used to think that one person couldn't F-Up an entire country and that "it takes a village" like Hillary always said, but now we know the truth.

Where will the Death Panels be located?

Will the people who serve on these panels be appointed, and if so by whom?

Will every person covered by the Affordable Care Act be reviewed by a Death Panel?

I can't get over the fact that the government actually has a program using the name Death Panel.

Metaphorical, symbolic--not really "death panels" per se, but insurance companies making the decision not to allow procedures for certain patients based on age, etc.

Having worked in critical care my entire career, I have very strong ideas about medical care. Number 1 being that all citizens of this country should have access to health care, in the long run, many dollars would be saved by having preventative medicine available. Secondly, although "Death Panel" sounds so dramatic, people do not always make reasonable decisions. 80% of Medicare dollars are spent in the last days of life. It is amazing what modern medicine can do, and what a human body can take, when prolonging life- no matter what- is preferred over a peaceful death. There are worse things than dying, I have seen them.

Lynn...Haven't insurance companies always made these kind of decisions, and they could refuse treatment or insurance because of preexisting conditions.
Seems like insurance companies have had Death Panels all along!

Medical insurance companies did not have to insure you if you had an existing medical problem. If, however, you developed a condition while insured, they could not drop you. Now, because of Obamacare, insurance companies are dropping people right and left and they don't have to insure them again no matter what happens with Obamacare, if it ever gets up and running.

Medical insurance companies would not insure anyone with a preexisting condition, and would use this tactic if you were insured as a reason (legitimate or not) to drop coverage.
If you developed a condition while insured they would use this tactic as a reason to drop you. I know this from personal experience.

One of my fears is that doctors will eventually stop taking medicare patients (my husband's eye doctor has already done this) drastically reducing those of us of a certain age from getting quality health care, thus getting rid of the sick and infirm in the senior population. Some one has to pay for obamacare and it will most likely be those of us on medicare. I am really nervous! Really hope we can turn this thing around.

Prior to obamacare, if you misrepresented anything on that application prior to buying medical insurance and the policy being issued, then they had the right to drop you. If you answered everything honestly, they would have a very hard time to do so. Everyone, as he ages, will develop conditions. It's beyond our control. Companies used to have ethics. obamacare is changing all of that.

my husband played high school football and was never diagnosed with a knee condition. At 47 he was told he had a degenerative knee condition that would require a knee replacement.
He never misrepresented anything on his insurance application and after 16 years of paying premiums they told him they were dropping coverage because of a preexisting condition from playing high school football.
Insurance companies have no ethics, and they never had any ethics.
I am happy obamacare will stop the underhanded practices of the medical insurance industry.

That is a terrible situation for your husband. It is curious as to how this company came to that conclusion. We begin to degenerate on the day of birth. Even macular degeneration... a rare condition, is usually present at birth. It's all in the genes on how conditions progress. With that insurance mindset, they could refuse to insure all of us who are over the age of 20. A lawyer might have helped you here. I, too, have concerns with insurance companies in general, not just medical.

With Obamacare, you will have insurance companies making health decisions and procedures, not your doctor. It's all a mess.

8:59am...Was that a Death Panel that decided to drop your husbands coverage after collecting 16 years of premiums?

It was a greedy insurance company and it should have been sued

Wow, all these terrible things the insurance industry got away with before the advent of Obamacare.

I was lucky to be relatively healthy before the age of 65. Now that I'm on Medicare i don't have to worry about "death Panels" or dropped coverages.

Go down defending Obamacare. You will be the only one left on the Planet. :)
