If you go up to the Property Appraiser's Web Site and do a search on your property, you will find that the city submitted the proposed garbage rate that included the $42 increase for Solid Waste or a total of $287.76 that was voted down by the Commission. Obviously, the city manager was surprised by the defeat of her proposal and these figures were already on their way to PAPA.

I pay that much out here in the county and still have to take it to dump sites.

Yes I checked my tax bill online as should you...Yes the increase was listed....and I already know how this will play out.
There will be a statement that this is only a notice and the increase was included "just in case" is was approved and that it can be changed later.
Regardless how dare anyone at City Hall "assume" anything! This is a clear violation of any ethical and or professional behavior on any level to assume something will be passed and sent in to county for all of us to review.
Enough already....When was it decided that we as the residents and VOTERS of this city have no say and when was it decided that things will happen one way or another before they happen.
Someone is left holding the bag this time and frankly I would not want to be "that bag"
It is sad enough that many of our efforts go with out comment or mention and gratefully so as we the people get more done that way. But to pass this increase off as if it was going to happen any way?
Someone needs to answer to this and Frankly the Commission needs to hold someone's feet to the fire...
Yes I'm actually pissed and frankly folks that's a VERY hard thing to accomplish.
Step up and represent those who voted you in or get out...Plain and simple...Take Action Now.
isn't this illegal for them to do this? and if so where is the state attorney's office on this? We need to fire the CM fast and vote out the commission.
My own feelings on this are, the numbers were submitted BEFORE the vote of the commission that night. There is time to straighten this out. However, it just shows to me how the CM is so confident as to the outcome of votes. This time it didn't work out. The people said, and the Commission listened, "enough garbage."
I also feel that is why the fire assessment will proceed. The Commission already lost $450,000 in garbage. They will not allow the Budget, faulty as it is, to lose another $1.45 mil. They have been told that it is absolutely necessary and of course, everyone needs to pay because some of us aren't paying anything and we get the service. This resonated with the Socialists and the commission.
The fire assessment is highly questionable and suspect on its legality no matter what message is coming out of city hall to justify it.
The tax roll is submitted to the property appraiser in July. It's only a proposed notice. If the intention is to notice the resident and propose an increase it is done between July's submittal to the property appraiser and the final submission to the tax collector's office in September. It is a REQUIREMENT that the proposed notices have what the increase might be in case the motion does pass. This isn't the City Manager's decision it's a regulation of how the tax rolls require noticing.
THANK YOU CITY HALL. What I said, however, still stands. SURPRISE!
