At last--a community organization, with its basic concern focused on immigrants, is giving back. A few of these people are friends of mine and people for whom I highly respect even though we have opposite and extremely strong beliefs that differ on illegal immigration and Arizona law. To explain their organization, they say, "The CDB was recently a part of the We Are Florida Campaign that helped stop SB2040, an Arizona copycat law that would have promoted racial profiling in Florida."
This morning, beginning at 8am the CDB (Comite de Defensa del Barrio), a local organization in Lake Worth comprised of community members for the purposed of educating and protecting civil rights is having a second neighborhood cleanup.
All those wanting to participate, meet at 8am this morning at the Guatemalan Mayan Center, 130 N. Dixie. All volunteers will be cleaning from A Street from 6th Avenue South to 10th Avenue North to trim the grass "in an effort to let true beauty of our city shine." Where a white t-shirt and bring gloves. For More Information Contact: Camilo Yepes – Member of the CDB, Tel: 561 309 7039.

8A.M.?Most of the people causing a need for clening up this area IN THE FIRST PLACE!! will still be passed out drunk from the night before!
Lynn, any chance you will be covering this event with photo's and progress?
Actually, NO. I found out about this from a friend who was invited to it. If people have events such as this in the community, they need to get in touch with people, particularly the local blogs that can get the word out. Obviously, they don't need the publicity and maybe they don't need the help. I have no idea how much ground they were going to cover today--how many people showed up, etc., etc. I don't want to blog on the community when NO ONE lets me know what's going on. I wish them well and hope it turns out great.
