Allen West - A Patriot

Comment Up
What makes a person a "hero" in the eyes of someone else?

Is it taking risk beyond what is expected? Is it putting your life at risk to save another? Is it standing up for moral principles that may not be popular with the majority or even the Geneva Convention? Is it someone who is willing to stretch the limits of protocol in order to save his troops?

Allen West has been condemned for firing a gun near a detainee's head. He received intelligence that the detainee had information that could possibly save the lives of his soldiers. It worked; the detainee talked and provided West with names and information.

Would it have been better that Col. Allen West do nothing...been apathetic? Apathy is the destruction of ideals and everything that went against what Allen West stood for. He took action and solved the problem. Allen West is the type of leader we need in this country, not light weights or pussies.

This is in response to Col. Irwin M. Jacobs'(retired) letter to the editor in today's PB Post wherein he says that Allen West was no hero. Everyone knows that in the time of war not all is done by the "book." Our forces don't march off with bayonets pointed to meet the enemy like they did in the Civil War. Tactics and warfare are totally different today. Leaders are thinking on their feet. A non-action will cost lives. At times, there is everything to gain by going beyond what is normal protocol. Col. Jacobs must know this.

Col. Allen West is a hero and a patriot and no one should forget that.

I would say that the vast majority who are playing this card are Democrats and liberals, the very ones who would like us to roll over to the Taliban.

Check your facts. The "terrorist" gave West bad intel.
Wasn't the most liberal Democrat in charge when Bin Laden was shot dead? After almost 8 years of your conservative president looking under his desk, looking in closets, telling us he was too busy to find Bin Laden etc.

Check your facts- how many elected democrats have served in the military and how many republican conservatives didn't due to deferments. Very enlightening

You guys are waaaaaaaaaaay to easy.

Any President elected is all of ours, not just "yours."

Since you know so much, you tell us how many Democrats and Republicans have served in the military. Not sure what a Party has to do with serving. This is an all volunteer military now so what do deferments have to do with anything?

Perhaps the "terrorist" did give West meaningless information but what if he really had something worthwhile? Would that have made a difference?

Bin Laden was never captured because an entire country's government was protecting him all of those years. Corruption. I suppose that is ok with you too?

I like Allen West and voted for him. I have not regretted that decision. In fact, I am more convinced than ever particularly when all these Debbie dolls attack him on a daily basis. Go West..

I remember hearing from our esteemed media how a pile of 50 or so bodies were found along side a road with "signs they were tortured".

I was trying to put it into context with all the hub-bub about how water boarding "IS" torture.

They never said what signs they were talking about so I thought maybe the hair on the heads of the dead people were wet with terrycloth indentations on their cheeks. But to my amazement, a real news source finally described the torture "signs" that were found on these dead bodies had to do with "power drill" holes.

All due respect to John McCain, who definitely knows what torture is, water boarding doesn't rise to the moral standing of what our adversaries use on us and their other enemies.

If the water boarding helped save one American soldier's life, and it didn't hurt the combatant, where's the foul?

Please remember this is not traditional warfare. You can't use traditional tactics.

A detainee does not have any protection. West did the correct thing. Lois Frankel and Debbie Wasserman-Schultz need to shut the hell up.
