As our residents do care how decisions impact their lives, more people want to hear what the people think. This blog is only my assessment and there are varied opinions out there. Let's hear from you.

Trying to put it into perspective... a blog, like this one may have 1000 hits a day. Typically, if 10% actually post their comment, that would leave 900 or so that just come to see what idiotic extreme fringe views are being spewed by the worst of us. And it does seem to be the extreme views that stick out here. Anyone trying to be middle of the road or see both sides of the argument do not make it interesting to read.
Since you started allowing anonymous postings, your participation and readership has increased substantially.
It is also encouraging that we have seen entries by both the mayor AND city manager. Both have been treated with respect and should look at this venue as a way to keep us informed of their opinions and their side of the issues.
We also have people from the dark side that monitor this and other blogs for stay up on strategies that are openly discussed here. Their's is a closed society, dependent on secrecy and clandestine meetings at drum circles in order to defeat the capitalist pigs.
And you have to admit, it's working for them.
At bare minimum, the blogs keep them on their toes. We ARE watching and it shows in comments like Waterman's.

Blogs get more interesting when there are interesting topics of discussion: taxes certainly is one and elections is another. Right now we have both with which to contend. I don't know one thing about those running for Mayor other than Rachel.
Most people read and formulate an opinion without commenting. They do comment, however, to their spouses, their neighbors and at the voting booth.
I do not believe that "extreme" opinions are reflected here but rather the opinion from those who dare speak out on their concerns. Even Polls are taken only by the few. Very few of our citizens speak at City Hall. Some people believe that simply by posting on a blog that their ID can be discovered. It can't.
"Defeating the capitalist pigs" will never happen in a free society and it won't happen in LW in spite of the flat tax on fire/rescue pension costs.
This and most bloggers clearly state that their blogs are opinions and thus, as Lynn stated, some times things are to the extreme but as both of your posts point out its the discussion that becomes important. Reasonable debate and discussion is a way to find common ground and sometimes its a way to join forces when your normally would not.
Lynn your absolutely correct that through yours and other blogs, news and commentary from all sources do get people talking....its those types of family and water cooler talks that help people form their views and believe it or not...influences votes.
What everyone needs to realize is that you do not have to agree with a topic and depending on the topic you do not have to respond....But if you do respond and as most bloggers state...keep it on point and not personal...That will ensure your thought is posted.
Yes all bloggers have had that moment in time where things got personal....But heck we are all human and move on from it.
In a sense bloggers are the historians for the future. They let people voice their opinions as to what is going on their own bloggesphere. The great thing about them is that they contain commentary from many sides which gives a better sense of the history that is being made. So all you bloggers out there need to keep up the good work and somehow archive all this stuff so future generations can learn from our achievements and our failures.This is each bloggers legacy being left in this world. Not many people get to leave one.
I count my blessings every day that you, Lynn, have this blog and website, it helps so much to keep up with all in the city. Since most of the elected officials will never respond to my e-mails and concerns, it is at least an outlet for voicing our concerns in a somewhat constructive way. The CM is useless to try to talk to in my experiences with trying, I found the city staff and operations not user-friendly and the commission just do not care or listen to us, so I am so glad at least we have this blog which seems very fair and balances and quite informative. It is helpful. I think it is more fair and balanced when all is published even if not all agree with what one blogger says. Overall, I think this website is so useful to us LW citizens who pretty much do not have a voice. I give you, Lynn, a lot of credit for sticking our head out like this and offering us all this forum. Kudos to you Lynn Anderson!
