Susan Stanton, City Manager of Greenfield, California

Comment Up

And what better opportunity, now that we talked about the constant crime in Lake Worth that seems to be escalating, than to mention our former city manager of Lake Worth, Susan Stanton.

Now the city manager of Greenfield, California,  Susan Stanton is conducting a national search for its very own police chief. As mentioned in a blog last year, Greenfield and Soledad California have been sharing one police chief since March 2012. She has held steadfast in her claim that Greenfield needed its own police chief.

According to Greenfield's police chief, "Burglaries in Greenfield are down 47 percent, armed robberies by 14 percent and neither city has had a homicide in 10 months, an accomplishment considering the violence flare-ups troubling much of the rest of the county. Assaults are down and we've saved some money, too."  click here.

At the time of her hire, the mayor of Greenfield, California said, "Stanton rose to the top of Greenfield’s applicant pool because of her skills in labor negotiations and her success in attracting new cultural centers to Largo. Communities across the nation are looking to raise revenues, and she did those things. Hiring her is a bold move, but it goes back to her experience and qualifications.”

Not only is crime down, but Stanton negotiated police salaries as she did when she was  city manager of Lake Worth. Stanton said her city's police department employees agreed to a contract with a 1 percent pay increase, compared to a nearly 12 percent increase under Soledad's new contracts. Please note that the PBSO got another raise this year. If any negotiations were taking place, we were not informed about them.

Slum and Blight Attracts Crime

For all of you with your head in the sand, this is a daily situation and never ending. When you think that we are a little less than 6 square miles, crime is out of control. If you don't think that slum and blight breeds crime, you are mistaken. The highest delinquency and crime rates are in the slum areas, as these sections of our city have the poorest housing conditions, the largest families with small incomes or housing too many people per our codes, and people who have migrated here illegally. They come from a different culture and they are victims of that and as a consequence, so are we all.

Every day I get at least 10 new crimes within 2 miles of where I live. Today there were 12. Keeping up with the crime in our entire city would be a full-time job. Some people actually don't want to know about it and believe it is negative reporting.  Perhaps if we don't know about it, it will all go away?

Quote of the Day - Obama

"...raising the debt ceiling, which has been done over a hundred times, does not increase our debt...."

~ President Barack Obama

As Allen West says, "If we say yes to more debt, we are saying yes to more spending. Congress cannot be trusted with our tax dollars. We would be crazy to give them more to waste! America can do better."

Bumpty, bump bump!

Now you see it--

Now you don't!

Public Works and the best manager ever, Jamie Brown, listened. Jamie said, "We have a real asphalt speed bump going in soon, so that one had to come up. The new one won't be so tough on the tires!"

Parking Lot rage at Lake Worth downtown Publix

A Lake Worth woman shopping at our downtown Publix was a victim of "road" rage that inflicted $500 worth of damage to her car. The driver, Brendan Guisti who lives in the 1600 block of North Federal, is out on $8,000 bond--$5,000 for using a deadly weapon without intent to kill. As there was a child in the back seat, he got an additional $3,000 for abuse of a child with great bodily harm.

Lake Worth Code Enforcement Department

Comment Up
Someone posed the question yesterday on this blog, if the city is outsourcing the Code Department why then are they advertising for a code officer and a compliance manager?  During public commentary I asked what was going on in our code enforcement department and specifically, what happened to Raquel Diaz, our former compliance manager...no one answered me on Ms Diaz. The City Manager did state that they were outsourcing this department and that an RFP would be going out in a few weeks.  Are they or are they not privatizing this department? Is this simply a lack of communication from the city manager to the Human Resource Department or is something else going on?

Politicians doing the End Run

Comment Up
Hey, if you don't like a bill, you don't like a law, you pull a trick---you find a way to go around it--similar to this Lake Worth commission that didn't like the results of the heights election--

"Congress had said [it wasn’t] going to pay for somebody in the federal bureaucracy to serve as an advocate for the illegal aliens. Then the administration said, We'll just retitle the position, essentially leave the same job description, and go ahead and do this anyway. So far they have not run into any serious resistance from Congress – and so they keep doing it. This is really evidence of the fact that even if we pass a bill that includes strong enforcement provisions – which the Senate bill does not; but even if the House were to put [such provisions] in there, there is no guarantee whatever that the administration would actually carry them out.”

Quote of the Day - John McCain

“President Putin and his associates do not believe in these values. They don’t respect your dignity or accept your authority over them. They punish dissent and imprison opponents. They rig your elections. They control your media. They harass, threaten, and banish organizations that defend your right to self-governance. To perpetuate their power they foster rampant corruption in your courts and your economy and terrorize and even assassinate journalists who try to expose their corruption.”

Foster Parents needed in Lake Worth

Comment Up

Every year hundreds of abused, abandoned or neglected children enter the child welfare system and guess what--145 local children were removed from their homes this past year because of abuse. Lake Worth is the second highest city with abused children. This is a revolting distinction. Executive Director of ChildNet, Larry Rein, gave a presentation this past Tuesday night asking for volunteers to step up and become foster parents.
