role in maintaining water quality, providing habitat for fish and
wildlife, reducing flood damage, and providing recreational
opportunities for the public”, said Cynthia Giles, assistant
administrator of EPA’s Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assistance.
“The sentences show that EPA, in conjunction with its federal and state
law enforcement partners, will vigorously investigate and seek
prosecution for those who harm these essential natural resources.
The two defendants were ordered to pay a criminal fine totaling
$2.25 million dollars, the largest criminal fine assessed for
wetlands-related violations in Florida history. D’Isernia was sentenced
to pay a $100,000 criminal fine, while Lagoon Landing, LLC was sentenced
to pay a $2.15 million criminal fine, a $1 million community service
payment, and a term of three years probation."

I always knew that Jamie was a celebrity--at least around Lake Worth he is. He has a huge responsibility as Public Services Director and I believe he is the best Lake Worth has had in years..
Jamie Brown will be playing tonight at the Cruzan Amphitheatre about an hour before the Dave Matthews Band begins at at 7 p.m. Who out here in the public knew he was a musician too?

Miami has problems with juggling

You know we are always wondering where money goes. It is transferred out of this line item and put in another. The commission will make this or that resolution to justify it all. It's all tricky stuff and no one can remember months later where in hell the money went. Commissions change just like city employees. Records are not detailed, are purged, or just plain inaccurate or go missing and we never know what is going on behind closed doors. Not anymore we don't.
Lake Worth got in the hot seat with FEMA and now Miami is in the hot seat for the second time with the SEC. The investigation in Miami, which began in 2009, stemmed from a Herald report that found city financial managers had transferred $26.4 million from the capital budget that pays for big-ticket construction items into the general fund to reduce gaping holes in the operating budget as the local economy soured. At the time, budget officials justified the transfers by saying the projects were no longer necessary. This sounds vaguely familiar.
We had a lot of missing money in Lake Worth and our beach fund virtually disappeared years back. At least we can say here in Lake Worth that we now have confidence in our finance department since Steve Carr was hired but there are still some who complain about the Casino Finance Plan or question as to where the billboard money went. Miami can't claim that they have a stable finance department. One up on them. I think.

Ok, students--your assignment for the day is to write the name of the Rev. Martin Luther King on a piece of paper and stomp on it.
Rhonda Swan, another liberal editor of the Palm Beach Post is still condemning Gov. Rick Scott for interjecting his opinion on the Florida Atlantic University class assignment on stomping on the word J-E-S-U-S after he received complaints. She believes that Rick Scott tried to capitalize on the exercise for political posturing. In her eyes, it had nothing to do with the fact that it was highly offensive to the millions of residents in the State of Florida who, through tax dollars, help support and fund Florida Atlantic University.
So, if the shoe was on the other foot, and students stomped on the words Martin Luther King or even Trayvon Martin (another person who Ms.Swan believes was denied his rights because of race), there would be mass rioting across the country.
Sensitivities should work both ways and reporters should not keep tossing around the race card and playing politics at every opportunity. Yes, thanks to black leaders, race took hold in the George Zimmerman trial even though race was not evident by the facts or the testimony.
Scott had every right to have an opinion and inquire about the stomping on JESUS class assignment. FAU allowed a stupid inflammatory exercise to go unchecked. And left, liberal black leaders as well as some left, liberal reporters are keeping the race card flame alive.

Nearly 6'2" and 175 lbs, it has been reported that Trayvon had numerous run-ins with authorities both at school and local police and had been stopped and almost arrested two days before his death for smacking a bus driver in the face because the driver refused to let him ride for free.

Voting is a right we take for granted, one that defines our nation as a republic with democratic principles. We all know, how difficult it is to get our voices heard. We always hope that we know the candidate and what he stands for before we cast that vote--serving the people who he represents--not himself and certainly not special interests.
Petitioning is no easy thing. Getting the message out takes a lot of pounding the pavement and raising money from those who have little, only their voices that are desperate to be heard. The results of any vote must be respected. It is the law. It was NOT respected in this city... not last night.
These are our leaders and they all say that they know what's best for us. They are the only ones who matter when it comes to what our city should look like. They say they are smarter. They don't give a hot damn about the Charter Amendment vote and what you think. They told you that last night when they approved of a Hotel Overlay District to build up to 65 feet where you said you didn't want more than 45 feet.
Remember what they did.

Stevie Wonder says he won't perform again in Florida until the state abolishes its Stand Your Ground gun law, which permits using deadly force against those who pose a risk of killing or seriously injuring someone. Stand Your Ground did not even apply in this case. Sorry, Stevie.

The commission wants to welcome developers and all those who make their living from development whether contractors, Realtors, plumbers, electricians and the like. They say that they are business oriented and want to create jobs. They say absolutely nothing about the cost of services and infrastructure or that the taxes derived from said buildings do NOT go to the city but to the CRA. They want to pretend that no vote ever took place four months ago and that the voters said "no" to their desires. They don't care. It is all about helping out "friends" and for developers to get wealthy.
These are the city blocks that the commission will change tonight to become a Hotel Overlay District and the parcels that can be built upon right now to 65 feet. We will probably have to endure another presentation by staff to justify why they don't want to, or don't have to, honor the people's vote.
