Vote AGAINST bond

Comment Up

Americans continue to hold a gloomy assessment of the economy’s chances for improvement in both the short- and long-term, according to Rasmussen.  Have you been to the grocery store lately?  It's unbelievable.  Landlords are raising rents and money goes no where. Those in the Service business are raising rates and service, well what is that?  You can't even get a city employee to return a telephone call.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 25% of American Adults believe the U.S. economy will be stronger a year from now. That’s virtually unchanged from 24% in March, the lowest level of optimism recorded in regular tracking since early January 2009 following the Wall Street meltdown. This finding has generally run in the mid-30s to low 40s for most of the last five-and-a-half years.

Timing is everything and for some reason, this commission continues to hit you over the head with a jackhammer and stomp on you by wanting to grab your cash even though most Americans know that the economy sucks and their dollar buys little. The only way you can tell them how you feel and get the message to sink in is to vote on August 26.  Tell them NO way.

Vote against bonds.

No Debate; NO trust; No bonds

Comment Up

Although the neighborhood association council lead by Mary Lindsey, consisting of 16 neighborhood presidents, are supposed to represent the voice of all of the people, they will not even discuss a debate on the most important issue ever to face voters in Lake Worth over the last 100 years. This is a vote that could put you in hock until year 2049, 34 years from the first issue. They have had issue debates in the past so why is this issue different?

Now, you have to ask yourself, "Why not allow a two-sided political forum?" What do they fear? Debate is one of the most basic signposts of a democracy with participation being a right...debating the issues is a normal function of democracy but our elected officials and representatives won't allow it. They just want us to hear their biased presentation that is costing you $50,000.

How can you trust giving a government $63.5 million that will really cost you $131 million when it's all over (if it's EVER over), when they won't allow a basic democratic principle of debate? Debate is what makes this country great...it certainly is not grabbing the cash and taxing every property owner for 34 years without allowing the other side of the argument.

So, let your voice be heard on August 26 and then again at the ballot box in March 2015.

School Board Election on August 26 - Tom Sutterfield District 4

Today, Tom Sutterfield of Boynton Beach got the endorsement from the Palm Beach Post for District 4 School Board. Tom says, "I will bring over a decade of school budgetary experience, knowledge of school operations and expansion, and a proven track record of working with parents, teachers, administrators and staff to ensure all education and safety standards for our children remain on the forefront.  I would be honored to serve as your next School Board member for District 4.”

It is a known fact that we have serious educational issues and challenges in Palm Beach County as shown in the FCAT stats below. If you can't read, you can't write and 2 + 2 does not equal 5. One woman with whom I spoke  is planning on opening a charter school in Lake Worth, She said, "I don't have any hope of things getting better with schools in Palm Beach County unless he and a few others like him get elected."

A failing grade is counted as scoring a 1 or 2. A passing grade is 3, 4 or 5 (the best).

Komedy Knight at VFW West Palm Beach

Comment Up

Last night, some of us went to Komedy Knight at the VFW Post 207 on Clare Avenue in West Palm Beach.  It was our first time and was it great fun--a night of hot comedy and laughs, friendly service from Tammy, and pork dinner specials. Happy Hour prices:  beer $2, soft drinks $1 with extravagant cocktails at only $5.

There were a half dozen comedians--seating began at 6pm and the show started a little late around 8:20pm. "David Stebbins, the headliner has a very interesting past. Multiple winner of numerous comedy festivals around the country. One of the 'realest' comedians who talks about the success and failures of being on the cusp of stardom," according to the VFW. I apologize that my photo of him did not take.

In a room full of veterans and former police officers, the place was filled with people who care about our country. Dick Farrell, radio talk host, was there. Dick has been in this business for over thirty years exposing the phonies, the hypocrites and the frauds. You can listen to him on wdbfradio.com.

Also the beautiful Chris Noel attended the show.  Some of you might remember her when she was a young movie star back in the 1960's.  During that period was the Vietnam War where we lost over 58,000 Americans. She took a tour of a VA hospital in 1965 that forever altered her destiny.  She auditioned for the Armed Forces Network (AFN) and started hosting her own radio show for the GIs in Vietnam. Since her film career, she has devoted herself to helping veterans.

Jihadist message - Sunday's Sermon

This is what we allow in our country--and this terrorist gets tax free status. As he incites Muslims to commit murder against our ally, Israel, will we be next?  It could be just a matter of time. Only in America.

Debate the Referendum? NO WAY says NAPC

Comment Up

With not even a Dear So and So, this is the e-mail that a resident just received earlier today regarding the request that the NAPC have a debate on the General Obligation Bond.  I would suppose that the district meetings as well as the neighborhood associations meetings that have and are being presented with only one side of the argument are sufficient. I would also suppose that taking $50,000 of taxpayer money to present one-side of an argument is also democracy in action.  I was told that at the council meeting this morning it was suggested that they were staying "out of politics" because of the John Prince Park baseball stadium "debacle."  I say, "Since when has the NAPC EVER stayed out OF POLITICS?" Draw your own conclusions.

To:

Thank you for contacting the NAPC with your suggestion. The Neighborhood Association Presidents' Council took the matter of hosting a debate on the Lake Worth 2020 bond referendum under discussion at our meeting this morning. The Council discussed the matter at length. No action was taken.

Poverty in the U.S.

If you consider the latest Rasmussen Report--
More Americans than ever doubt whether it is possible for most people in this country to escape being poor.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey 40% now think it is not possible for just about anyone to escape poverty, up just two points from 38% in March but the highest finding in regular surveying since January 2009 just after the Wall Street meltdown. Sixteen percent (16%) more are not sure. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

So, when you take that into consideration, Lake Worth can't or probably will not climb out of the poverty ashes. The city of Lake Worth wants to strangle the property owners in new debt that they have no chance from escaping unless they can find some poor sucker to buy their property.

We have defined our country as a place where everyone, if he or she works hard enough, can get ahead (the American Dream) but Obama with a line stolen from Elizabeth Warren in her victory speech on November 6, 2012 where she stated it had been "an amazing campaign, and let me be clear, I didn't build that, you built that," contradicts that work ethic. Warren copped the line from some professor. So, the message from this administration is--if we work hard, someone else got us there.  How does this stated belief  incentivize people to work hard and to achieve success?

Regarding the General Obligation Bond that obligates you to pay until year 2049, poor people could become tax poor in this city. Businesses will look at this high tax and think twice before they come to Lake Worth to build a property or buy a commercial structure.

Jeff Clemens - Marijuana

Well, we all know where Clemens stands on marijuana--he loves the stuff and from all indications, his bill will pass with a huge percentage this November.  The people are duped.  They believe it will be a cure all for pain and discomfort and the largest percentage of people approving of it are Seniors.  Some of it has to do with many of them being "flower" children and hippies years ago.

Instead of a commissioner's friend on Lake Avenue selling artificial marijuana and ending up in the federal slammer, we will see potheads all over Lake Avenue doing it all legally. I envision walking down Lake and getting high on fumes and more petty crime occurring. Clemens has palled around with a convicted drug felon, Robert Platshorn, (Black Tuna) who is America's most notorious drug smuggler. Clemens doesn't seem to mention this guy these days and we can certainly understand why. Platshorn is still advocating for medical marijuana. He served nearly 30 years in prison on federal drug charges. Since getting out six years ago, he's been promoting medical marijuana use to seniors in Florida, the most vulnerable people of all.

It is a proven fact...many drug addicts started by smoking marijuana. The vast majority of cocaine users (99.9%) began by first using a “gateway drug” like marijuana, cigarettes or alcohol. Of course, not everyone who smokes marijuana and hashish goes on to use harder drugs. Effects always wear off and this is when users try something stronger. All this legalization will lead to eventually legalizing it for general use and from that will come the use of even harder drugs. Long-term studies of high school students’ patterns of drug use show that most young people who use other drugs have tried marijuana, alcohol, or tobacco first.

The interesting thing about Clemens is not only that he is a die-hard progressive tax and spend liberal Democrat, he doesn't think much about religion, the other side of the story and thinks little about killing fetuses.  His stand on funding education has changed in the last few years too. But this is the guy that the mayor is looking to in order to help us get grant money for potholes. Realizing that it takes time to work within the system, whatever he "gets" for Lake Worth will be a first.

Quote of the Day - Lake Worth General Obligation Bond

Comment Up
quote of the day"If the city took the money and used it to build a football stadium the voters could sue. But as long as it's for infrastructure, whether or not as [Lake Worth 2020] has it, the only recourse is political -- vote them out in the next election."

~ University of Miami School of Law Professor Stanley Langbein and University of Florida Levin College of Law Professor Joseph W. Little.

Both experts told New Times there is no way the bond referendum's language legally binds the city to use the bond proceeds as described at such great length in the Lake Worth 2020 flyers, brochures, power points, maps and graphs. And that's after the city commission voted to spend $50K selling the plan to the public.

Mark Farrington's last day

Mark Farrington, photo from in 2012

On June 27 we reported that Mark Farrington, Human Resource Director, was leaving and taking a job in Lakeland. Today is his last day with Lake Worth.

So many people have bailed out and the city keeps it all top secret...no details are ever given unless it is something totally off the wall as said when Doug Wood, Finance Director, recently walked out with NO notice.  City Manager Mike Bornstein said that "Wood left because Lake Worth’s government is not yet the well-oiled machine Wood might have expected." It's no wonder that few want to give the city $63.5 million.

Mr. Farrington will be working 28 minutes from his home and as he said, "That's why we work--to take care of family." Congratulations to Mark Farrington and good luck in your new job starting on August 4..

Lake Worth Bond issue

Well, the city has just started its $50,000 blitz to ensure the sheep all vote to tax themselves for thirty years but today's Palm Beach Post's favorable article didn't cost them a dime not to mention the deplorable opinion in the Lake Worth Herald. That editor is always a "company man."

America has never been so vulnerable

Photo: Economist.com

Didn't we learn anything from 9-11? This has to be about the worst administration and the worst do-nothing president in decades--Many of these so called children who have crossed our border ILLEGALLY are teenagers and none of them have passports or any identification. We have no clue as to whom is entering our country. Here is an excerpt from Judicial Watch:

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is allowing illegal immigrants go around airport security to catch planes without a photo identification required of all other passengers, a high-level DHS source tells Judicial Watch. It appears to be part of an Obama administration plan to expedite the transfer of tens of thousands of Unaccompanied Alien Children (UAC)—mostly from Central America—that have entered the country through Mexico in the last few months. They are mostly coming in through the Rio Grande Valley in Texas and authorities there are incredibly overwhelmed by the sudden influx.

Reports confirm that these illegal immigrant "kids" coming here in droves pose a potentially catastrophic risk to our country not to mention that six individuals from Afghanistan, Iraq, and Yemen were recently picked up by U.S. border patrol near Laredo, Texas with 60,000 Iraqi dinars ($51.00) apiece on each one according to Breitbart.  It's no wonder that many people are sick of elected officials in both Parties. They are standing by doing nothing to protect our borders and our citizens. Why aren't you mad?
