CPB Dissolves

Corporation for Public Broadcasting

The CPB announced Monday that its board voted to dissolve itself completely after Congress stripped all federal funding from NPR and PBS last year.

What started as a Trump campaign promise turned into the complete destruction of the public broadcasting funding apparatus that conservatives have fought against since the 1960s.

The board made the decision at its December 10 meeting but waited until Monday to make it official. CPB President Patricia Harrison tried to spin the shutdown as some noble sacrifice.

"When the Administration and Congress rescinded federal funding, our Board faced a profound responsibility: CPB's final act would be to protect the integrity of the public media system and the democratic values by dissolving, rather than allowing the organization to remain defunded and vulnerable to additional attacks," Harrison said.

Translation: they're taking their ball and going home because Trump cut off the taxpayer money spigot. [Renewed Right]
