Lantana woman issued excessive fines for code violation

A City Just Fined A Woman SIX FIGURES For Parking In Her Own Driveway…

Sandy Martinez was shocked when she found out her Florida town had been fining her $250 per day for over a year. The bill for her property code violation had climbed to over $100,000.

Her offense? A car was parked with two of its wheels in her grass rather than the driveway. But the car was on her own property; her own grass. Sandy knew she had fixed the issue over a year before—soon after she received a citation and then called city inspectors to come back out.

The city of Lantana in Florida has a law that states, “All off-street parking spaces, including driveways, but not including parking spaces located in swale areas as permitted by section 17-34, shall be asphalt, concrete or black, and shall be hard surfaced and in good repair in compliance with town codes.”

Meeting with the city of Lake Worth Beach tomorrow for excessive fine also. The entire thing is a series of errors, mostly theirs. But.... they are human, errors happen. Our errors... we should have known better. Especially since we were never noticed, they were mailing to previous owner.
