House Passes Defense Bill With Restrictions on Abortion, Transgender Procedures
The vote was largely along party lines, a departure from the typical bipartisan support for a bill that has passed every year since 1961.On a vote of 219 to 210, the House on passed a sweeping annual defense bill that includes GOP-led amendments to restrict abortion coverage and transgender procedures, and eliminate diversity initiatives at the Pentagon. Mostly Democrats voted against the bill (they like wokeism), with four in support.
The $886 billion defense package includes a 5.2 percent pay raise for service members and incorporates measures aimed at addressing the challenges posed by China, highlighting the importance of strategic considerations in national defense planning.
The House measure includes initiatives to counter China and an additional $300 million to support Ukraine as it responds to the February 2021 invasion by Russia.
