A message from Michael Barnett, your county commissioner
Largest Tax Cut in 30 Years from Palm Beach County
Tonight, the City of Lake Worth will vote on the millage rate, Resolution 22-2023--With the inclusion of the County Fire MSTU millage 3.4581, the maximum available Operating Millage cannot exceed 8.9526 mills. This year continues a trend that began in the last five (5) years with an increase in the taxable value of real and personal property of approximately 15.11%. This rate will result in an increase in the actual tax revenues collected.
But the County and Michael Barnett have great news to share… this past Tuesday, the Board of County Commissioners passed the largest property tax reduction in thirty years! By a unanimous vote, your County Commission agreed it was time to give residents some relief by lowering the proposed maximum millage rate from 4.715 to 4.500. We said NO to the status quo and put taxpayers first by returning your money to your family’s pocket. This constitutes millions of dollars in savings!"You will pay less in ad valorem taxes this year, even if your property’s value has increased. Rest assured; we will not put our high standard of county services at risk. Palm Beach County has enjoyed an increase in revenues due to the addition of new properties, an increase in property values, and the investment income produced due to our Clerk of Circuit Court/Comptroller. Moreover, the influx of new residents and businesses has generated additional revenues that have further enabled your County Commission to return the excess to you, the taxpayers. Again, it’s your money," says Commissioner Barnett.
County Public Hearings: Public Hearings on the proposed millage rate will take place on Thursday, September 7 & Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at 5:05 p.m. in Chambers on the sixth floor of the Robert Weisman Governmental Center at 301 Olive Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL 33401.
