I remember the Day when Lake Worth High was tops!

The results are in: How Palm Beach County students fared on new state tests

The results are in on statewide English and math assessments for Palm Beach County students.

Palm Beach County students in grades 3 and 10 are on par with statewide averages in their performance on the English and language arts exams. Since the tests are new this year, there are no scores to compare them with.

In third grade, 48% of students scored at or above grade level, and 50% of 10th graders scored at or above grade level. Statewide, 50% of students scored at or above grade level in both grades.

And guess what? The traditional school with the lowest passing rates in English/language arts was Lake Worth High (22%).

This is shocking but not unexpected because of the large immigrant population in the City Of Lake Worth Beach. Are we still considered a sanctuary city?

There's plenty of blame to go around.

@9:25...who do you blame and why?

The kids will be all right I’m concerned about the druggy campers stealing our property

I don't know where to start. First of all, if the children don't speak any English, how can the teacher teach them to read, without holding back the children who do speak English.

If the parents can't speak English, they can hardly help the children.

There are just so many problems that it seems unsolvable.

I thought our commissioner in #4 was working on migrant problems.

Then, you have the white kids and the black kids who can't read either.

How come the Catholic schools are able to educate kids so much better than public schools.

It all comes down to discipline.

LWHigh is 98% Black/Hispanic

Well, if you watch cable news at all, you will see that Black and Hispanic people are doing very well, so they must have picked up reading somewhere.

Actually, I do blame the teachers. Teaching requires diligence. It also requires a talent for what you are doing. Some teachers are naturally gifted, and others couldn't teach with a Doctorate. It's a gift, it's an art, it's a discipline, and I would say you have to love what you are doing.

After school programs, weekend learning, and summer school. Whatever it takes, we have to improve learning in the lower grades. As far as 12 years of schooling, it's a waste of time. 8 years and then pick a trade.

If parents think their child is gifted, let them pay for it. If they are really gifted, trade school won't diminish their talent.

@6:18--if Blacks and Hispanics read very well, they sure do NOT at Lake Worth High School.

I understand that, but why?
