Unfortunately an accurate assessment. It was driven by the News Media, a powerful and controlled Propaganda "Directorate" that is connected to the opinion and behavior formation of most Americans.

The "News" service practically tells us "not to look at the little man behind the curtain"... ...This is about the ignorant peasants that were controlled by the News Media and that are not supposed to think about "what is behind the curtain"...they are kept believing the fictions created by the propaganda service, and when actual truths are presented to them -- that conflict with their false narratives, these truths are rejected as "Right Wing Conspiracies".
Anything that conflicts with the dominant propaganda will be seen as a Right Wing Conspiracy...and this controlled peasantry has no cultural memory or real understanding of what "Right Wing" actually means...they know it is terrible, and they know it is a belief that is counter to the one held by the News Media that helps them know how to think about everything important in their lives.
Let me say this again...Anyone that disputes or disagrees with the Progressivee Left's opinions is supposed to be labeled as being "Right Wing". This label is so powerful there does not need to be any discussion or understanding of the issue. It is the free pass on propaganda that was essential for indoctrination to succeed.
The moral of this story---Hate the National News Services, Hate the Reporters that are henchman in this game of Lies, and begin a "culture Shift" by getting everyone you are friends and family with, to begin to "delegitimize" the News media...Make the job of Reporters in the Propaganda Directorate a new societal value---it should have the smell of sewage, decay and sickness, as these people are a new Black Plague upon our Earth.
While some of our local reporters are not yet directly involved in the propaganda activities of the entities that control their news stations, they work for people that are controlled by the most evil and vile forces in our world, and the only good move the few good reporters have left--would be to to QUIT.
Dan Volker may pinpoint the causes for the Decline, but he doesn't have any solutions. There are no solutions. Every Empire has its' day in the sun, and the US is no different.
An erudite author from Tanzania, Wilfred Ruhega, has written a book called "in the last days of America's Hegemony".

Just consider this statement, when the President was in Poland spouting off nonsense. "The White House responded" Who the hell is the White House? Did we elect an inanimate object? Do we know who these people are, and did we vote for them? Can't you see that it is beyond anyone's control?
Our elected officials are just props. Well Paid Props! Who's really running the country?
My solution is similar to the solutions used to fix broken government leaderships for thousands of years....When it gets bad enough, the peasants revolt. The masses in America are the new peasants, especially with the destruction of the middle class fostered by the Biden WH, assisted by the Scamdemic, Lockdowns to kill small Business, and Tony Fauci to make the peasants feel righteaous about what they were giving up. I'd say things are bad enough for a peasant uprising. Historically, these uprisings do not have to succeed only by forceful overthrow---the type we need to model after are the ones where culture becomes one....Rather than thousands of splinter groups as the Marxists have formed by divisiveness, we get back to ONE American culture with some huge goals the majority of us will get behind. You start this by getting al your friends on board. Do you know ANYONE that will not agree that our biggest enemy is the news media with their Propaganda and intention to tell the public HOW to think about everything important to the left? Even most democrats I know agree that CNN and NY Times reporters should be seen as enemies to America. Today this is only a quiet thought, but it needs to become loud, it needs to be screamed from every rooftop, and it needs to come down on the national News medias like a defective concrete ceiling... And they are pulling this Ceiling down on their own heads....All we need to do is be more forcefully in this cultural rejection. End the Propaganda and it's minions, and most of America's problems can be fixed :-)
Get rid of the ridiculous reality shows, pathetic reality stars and influencers who are mere extensions of the corrupt vile media - Hollywood elites included.
