Lake Worth City commission discussed domicile for city manager & Utility Director
What was agreed to by the commission and the public who submitted comment cards, our code should remain intact. Both who are in these executive positions need to live in the city limits and six months was plenty of time to find a residence.From our Code:
Sec. 2-3. - City manager and utility director residence requirement.
The city manager and utility director must establish a bona fide residence in the city, within six (6) months of appointment as city manager. A bona fide residence, for the purpose of this section, is a permanent domicile within the city which has not been adopted with the intention of again taking up or claiming a previous residence acquired outside of the city limits.

Sarah Malenga placed this item on the agenda. She thought 1) perhaps they should be able to live somewhere other than in the city and 2) thought they needed at least 9 months to look for a residence. Herman and the rest of the board disagreed.
They will get a cheap apartment in Lake Worth, and live in their houses in other cities. Omary Hardy did that.

@9:44...I would think you would have to look up the Ordinances on this issue and see if this was voted on by the electorate.

I can see this for the city manager, but for someone like the head of the electric Power Utility, like Ed Liberty, the town is damn lucky to have him, and the town would have no business demanding he lives in the town area ( if he did not - I don't know ). What I do know is that getting someone with this degree of technical knowledge and experience is VASTLY MORE IMPORTANT than something as trivial and meaningless as how far they live from the downtown area. In the scheme of things...,my god. This sounds like something right out of Atlas Shrugged !
Dan, the reasoning behind this is if we should have to act on something immediately, he will be here quickly to assess and act. Our grid is the most important piece of infrastructure we have.
I agree with Dan. For starters, there isn't that much talent in Lake Worth proper, that isn't retired. I would think maybe he would be required to live in the county, but not LWB. That's just silly!
@2:42...whatever! Let's just have all our top officials live wherever they please.:( That solves it. Don't even understand your reasoning at all. Silly?
