Tonight's Meeting - City Hall on fire?

Comment Up

As the City Commission starts its meeting tonight, the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag will be lead by Vice Mayor Maxwell:

"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

I would just like to remind him about that justice for all part as he does represent ALL OF THE PEOPLE.

Now that the city commission is totally inflamed about the recent set-back at the polls on the General Obligation Bond, it will now try to "hold court" by their city attorney drumming up citizen complaints/testimony of "disenfranchisement" or anything else pertinent to support their grievance.  Still in shock and not ready to concede defeat, we will hear all the objections contesting the election. Even the infamous bird, tired of flying over potholes, is calling for Susan Bucher's firing.

By "justice for all" you mean justice for the people that might have been turned away. Right?
Or do you mean you only want justice for you and your "core"?

What I mean, anonymous at 11:14, is for this commission to stop playing games, stop treating the voters like crap and recognize this election.

Come together. Great message. Now do it. I hope that this commission and staff bring forward a real plan to fix our roads.. not a purchase scheme for the park of commerce. The plan must have a cap, not the unlimited potential to drive homeowners and businesses out of town.
Mayor, you allowed NO open debate on this subject. The pertinent FACTS of this bond were deliberately covered up and constantly changed by city staff and the advertising pieces that were sent out by the city. And worst of all Mayor- YOU TOOK MY TAX DOLLARS ,50,000 of them to fuel this one-sided debate. You canceled city meetings and deliberately held elections when many people were not in residence .
Time will tell if you are sincere in your efforts to bring forth a real solution. Katie Mcgiveron

I did vote against. I think the bond will pass if the poc is taken off the table. Your rhetoric and images only "ignite" the unstable. Most people do not feel they are being treated like "crap"They just want an offering a poor city like ours can afford. I think what would most make you happy is a divided city. Bullets and fire really keep your blog going.

I don't often agree with Katie, but I do here. The City was advocating for the bond, canceled commission meetings, the presentations and mailers were one sided and lacking important information, like how the bond was going to be paid for.

Now one of the paid for City lobbyists is writing letters to the editors saying that everyone who voted no is Mr. or Ms. Negative or playing games. I voted no, b/c of the finances, the City finances and my finances as a tax payer.

The unstable are those who pushed this bond to a vote. I like these photos and many people do feel they are being treated like crap. We will just see how much tonight at this city meeting and all the frap that they will bring up.

@12:49. What keeps this blog going are all the different opinions in this city as well as in national politics and those of us who feel trampled upon by elected officials who ignore us and do not want to hear anything but their own voice. They forget about democracy and the power of the people. Here in LW, they even over-turn elections. You can't get much worse than that.

This is a political blog and its author advocates for conservative issues and takes that view in its analyzation. This bond was far from conservative and the information disseminated by the city changed weekly with much hidden from the property owner. The blog has done a stupendous job bringing forth the facts.

We will have a divided city as long as commissioners refuse to listen to the other side of the argument and push their own agenda. You don't feel like this commission treated the people like crap anony above? Many people would disagree with you. If they didn't treat the against people like crap they sure treated them as if they were stupid schmucks. Just listen to the mayor's video.

Well unfortunately I was one that was turned away at the polls, I was going to ask God to give me a sign on which way to vote, but letme say this, for all that think this commission is not listening, and trampling on your right. Let me say this the last two comm. meeting I attended, I had to listen to McVoys rhetoric on sea level rise while on the Dias, so in retrospect he was also pushing his agenda down the publics throat.

Lynn Anderson said...

Well, that comment is largely exaggerated and disproportionately critical, anonymous. McVoy merely mentioned sea level rise and the fact that the city was not considering it at all in its infrastructure plan. What IS pushing an agenda and down someone's throat is using $50,000 of taxpayer money to get your way. McVoy used 2 minutes of public time to make a point. big difference, anonymous.

Lynn, are you serious I guess you were Not There when he (McVoy gave his two power point presentations ( from the Diaz) that went on for more than 20 minutes each. If I am not mistaken you commented about one of the commissioners rolling their eye's, and being disrespectful during one of his tirads. Better check your archives, and I will be expecting another meaningless correction.

None of the cards sent out by the Yes PAC ever mentioned that the staggering debt would have lasted until 2049, crippling our City our residents and our children.
A department head said at College Park meeting that the roads had always been $500,000. In fact this Commission REDUCED it from $1 million to $500,000 2 years ago. I wonder why they intentionally neglected the roads and then stood by as he misrepresented the facts to the voters 3 days before election day.
This do nothing Commission is as deceitful as it is arrogant.
Let them go to work and figure out how to generate revenue without increasing our already excessively high taxes.

4:27pm...Commissioner McVoy, a scientist, gave a presentation on the seminar he attended on sea level rising...one of the very few presentations EVER given by this commission after traveling on taxpayer money. It was not in discussion of this bond. You, once again, are taking a good thing, trying to make it into a bad thing and twisting the truth. He gave a 10 minute presentation as I recall and it was extremely interesting.

Anonymous said...

You at have found it extremely interesting, but as I recall, most of the people in chambers one one of these presentations found it to be a ploy to misdirect on the up coming election, and furthermore why we're 2 presentations needed?

Anonymous said...

Anon @ 4:27 I could not agree more, this was nothing short of a political ploy on Mcvoys part to throw a wrench in this election. He has Always run on sustainability, and lowering our carbon footprint, and in the final weeks before the election he comes up with this BS

Lynn Anderson said...

Thank you for always being so negative. His seminar came right before the election and he gave his presentation at the first opportunity. The city conveniently cancelled regular commission meetings for 6 weeks before the election. I find this BS. The election had nothing to do with global warming or sea level rise although the city really should consider that problem and incorporate into whatever is eventually done on infrastructure and road improvement.
