Lake Worth Crime

Comment Up
PBSO speaking at the ROLOH meeting last night

Burglaries are on the rise and most happen during the day when owners are at work. Keep your damn doors locked!  No kidding?  Criminals love our city.  You have to ask, "why?" Owners rent to them with no background checks. The slum and blight has caused our biggest problems. Until this city stops talking about it and/or stops looking the other way and actually demands that our laws are enforced, it will get worse. Until the PBSO stops driving by a homeless person sleeping on a city or county owned bench, it will continue. Until a store raises holy hell about a theft instead of believing it is the cost of doing business, it will continue. Until we actually see police presence in our city, nothing will change. Where are they?  We have big problems.  Are the criminals winning? Have people just given up and believe that by paying over a MILLION DOLLARS A MONTH for public safety that we will survive and things will get better?

All happening within a 2 mile radius of where I live and we are 6 square miles of city with crime all over the city.

I think that a good beginning would be a no tolerance attitude towards loitering in the city and on our street corners. The people of the Bryant Park neighborhood are stepping up- we all need to demand some changes here.

As I've written before, this crime report does not tell the whole story/numbers of crimes, for what-ever reasons.
I',m thinking it's to keep the numbers down so the PBCSO can claim a significant drop in crime, and have the "numbers" to back it up when demanding more money.
This may go so far as to keeping the local new's outlets in the dark, or at least in compliance with their idea of what's "best for the city".
In the last two weeks there were two major police raids on two properties, one in the 400 block of North K, the other right around the corner on North fourth.
Residents were aware that the apartment on North K was being used for drug sales/use along with hookers and their clients going in and out daily.
Little was known about the people in the apartment on fourth, other than they had been there three weeks, were seen moving guns from car trunks to the apartment and back, and that they were attempting to quietly move-out about four nights ago. Said effort was quickly stopped when approx. 4-6 unmarked police car's surrounded them and took several into custody, with one car being towed away.
In both raids officer's were in full tactical gear, plain clothes, and unmarked car's, and yet NO mention of either incident has been seen on local news channels OR local paper's !

This is an ongoing problem, and though locals are trying to do their part in reporting those situations that seem odd in a good neighborhood, with-out transparancy through news outlets and PBCSO, it seems a waste of time .........

I'd like to know more about what John is saying, are the crime statistics actually down?

I have absolutely noticed a real drop off in PBSO presence in the city and in my neighborhood in the past two years. I go weeks without seeking a PBSO patrol car. When I call the non-er number, which I do on a regular basis sometimes I get no response and most often a very slow response. I had a prostitute servicing a customer in the alley behind my home and PBSO showed up eventually but by the time they did it was too late and the customer was driving away.

We have increasing problems in Parrot Cove with homeless. This is due to the ongoing feedings by the churches and in the parks. A homeless guy was going door to door this past weekend banging on doors and trying doors of homes. Yes we called and PBSO showed up 30 minutes later and the guy was long gone.

We are spending tons and tons of money and not getting the service or coverage that was promised to us.

There seems to be a serious management problem with PBSO in Lake Worth. Are the deputies clocking in and then going elsewhere? We need a strong police presence in this city. Not massive numbers of cops. Just a few who are out there, vigilant and quick to respond. We don't have this now.

don't you people get it yet--here what the police do---for a little while they will seem like they are on the problem if you call--and before you know they are gone and the problem escalates out of control--- they really do little to avoid the problem-where are they in downtown knowing what some business owners come here for illegal activities to bring them real money---how many examples do they need--maybe they should update their officers --showing them the true crime report in lake worth --are they hiding something so the people think crime is slowing down--they are not worth the money---they proved they cant do the job--just look at what happened in Bryant park--in a two week period, rapes,a murder, sex in bathrooms(20 arrests)homeless--drug needles everywhere--do you people really call lake worth your home--im not proud to live here--I feel homeless just living here

the problem is capt silva but told he is leaving---thank god --he is useless---going to fbi---lets hope its in another country--whoever gets him will see he is not their guy

You might want to really open your eyes. The PBSO has a lot of unmarked cars and trucks patrolling. They cannot be on every corner. If you as a citizen see something illegal or suspicious ....call. Get you neighborhood associations involved. We all have to help lower the crime rate.

Well, if they are unmarked, how do we know they are there? Are they obvious? Lots of crime and I haven+'t seen anyone jump out of an unmarked car to arrest anyone.

To 6:14 pm. You really are clueless. Officers in unmarked cars are there to observe and get enough proof/evidence to make a case. They are also there before a raid. When you are aware of your neighborhood you will know when something is amiss. When you see a patrol car in your neighborhood., flag down the officer. Introduce yourself and thank him /her for being there. Bitching about the PBSO on a blog does not help your neighborhood. The old LWPD could not be everywhere either.

Let's hear about the results and not the cheerleader routines. Thanks.

What would you suggest the citizens do to help reduce crime?

Lynn Anderson said...

Isn't that why we pay PBSO over $1 million a month? Isn't that why we elect officials? Why should, we, the citizens come up with solutions. We live in our houses, mind our own business, lock our doors, and low-lives enter our world, assaulting, robbing, murdering, vandalizing, etc. Citizens who give a crap are doing their part by taking care of their property but crime can still hit them.

Strange. every time I call PBSO they send someone right away if it's warranted.

How would a sheriff know if it was warranted or not? Is it your charming personality or your mean toughness?
