The Gulfstream Hotel was the "game"

Greg Rice

Yesterday's master of ceremonies at the July 4th event at Bryant Park. Love Layla, his dog!

One of Mr. Rice's friends is the editor of the Lake Worth Herald. In his editorial piece today he says, it is all "gamemanship" as to why we have these differences in Lake Worth. How anyone can arrive at that opinion is a mystery. Some of us have lived here almost as long as he has. What we have is a difference of opinion on how we want our downtown to look and we all have the right to have an opinion. We also had the right to vote on the question. We did. We won for 45 and 35 feet in our downtown

Another Lucerne Condo building six stories high and a building incompatible to the entire downtown block west of Federal to Dixie where Mr. Rice lives, is not the answer. These "Friends" used the Gulfstream Hotel as a lie for 6 story heights in our downtown. To the side of Mr. Rice and Mr. Easton, height does matter--it is their big game, and boy did they play some games during the election. They say two more floors is the catalyst for developers to have an interest in our city or not. I say, where has that developer been in all these last 100 years? What developer told you that? What developer said that he just had to have 6 stories?  What developer told you that 4 stories would not work?  We already had one big hotel chain that said 4 stories would work.

This is not entertainment, Mr. Editor. Do you think that we petitioned and raised money for the fun of it? This is not about being ramrodded by a dictatorial developer oriented commission wanting its own way. This is true passion on the part of the people and what we want for our city.  56% of the people told you so.

This man(if you want to call him that) is a joke. All he cares about is money and getting more of it. He does not care about the common Joe. If he did, he would clean up his blighted and boarded up properties at 1306 and 1320 Lucerne Ave. The ups and downs of these hell holes is enough to drive us crazy over here. Now I have to report them again to Joel and the city, as there is so much garbage all over them again. Rice just does not keep them clean. He thinks just because they are over here in Pequena Guatemala that it is AOK to leave them so dumpy looking for us who live over here to see these trashy properties and live by them everyday. Rice does not care about anyone but himself, his actions speak louder than words. He is a true disgrace to our city and neighborhoods. If he wants respect he needs to earn it by taking responsibility for his dumpy properties, just look at ALL that trash again, what dumps Mr. Rice, just love these boarded up, blighted, hole int he roof buildings in front of my house, what a pleasant site. You should be ashamed of yourself Rice.

Rice is all about $! Greedy and corrupt wanting to build up using his power to try to make more money. Most people say that his other brother was the nicer of the two, this one is all about abusing his power to get more of that and money in his pocket and the expense of others. I guess there always has to be one evil member in every family or does there?

Love your use of the word "we". If "you" already had one big hotel chain say that 4 stories would work, where are they? Why aren't they remodeling the Gulfstream?
Why didn't you use their data as part of your defense?

To answer this anonymous poster's comments (part of which were personal attacks and therefore not posted) --here goes--

1. The Gulfstream Hotel was not what the referendum was about. It had nothing to do with the hotel or any hotel. Therefore RPPAC did not have to defend any position regarding a hotel.
2. The hotel was bought for $12.9 million. It is now worth $2.5 million.
3. It is in foreclosure and needs to complete that process. Until the bank takes it over and sells it at today's value, this hotel will sit there forever.
4. Ask William Waters about the hotel chain on 4 stories and its viability. Of course a 4 story hotel can be built.
5. No developer in his right mind would want to develop here with all the slum, the blight and the crime. Let's work on that.
6. Please learn what the referendum WAS about instead of all your ridiculous personal attacks.

Lynn, thanks for always giving us the truth. You go through so much angst from these nasty people.

Lynn,
Rice is all about "me." Not about us or we! He could care less about all of us, the city, the the common folks who live here. If he did, his actions would speak differently. His blighted properties on Lucerne would never be able to be in the conditions they are in if these properties were located in College Park, North Lakeside, South Palmway, or Bryant Park. Rice only cares about himself, that is why the rest of us have to have a blighted city where his properties actual contribute to crime, drugs, prostitutes, and blight, all due to his negligence.

LOL.
Actually, these little bullies keep me going. They keep me motivated. And to the person who has asked me if I am closing down my blog--the answer is NO. Why would I do that? You would have no one left to bully and accuse of all sorts of insane things.

yes, thanks Lynn for shedding the truth on all of this, nasty people like Rice need to be run out of this town, he is nothing more than a rat!

Caution--this blog is about the LW Herald editorial today, not Greg Rice. Greg has been a good ambassador for our city even though he is on the other side of local politics than some. It is too bad that he owns such a controversial boarded up property on Lucerne that stays blighted due to the trash and debris thrown around by others.

print this or not. you allowed 4 personal attacks on greg before your b.s. admonishment. i am not going to write more. you and your crew are not worth it. i hope the proposed boycott of your blog takes affect soon.

READ THE POLICY

Greg Rice is a public figure. As such, he has to stand the heat. Why not say the exact same thing over on the other blog? These comments are from his peers as the Other Blogger would say. Freedom of speech. You would be surprised what I do NOT publish here.

SECRET: Everyone has freedom of choice, anonymous. Someone can read an opposing view, the truth, the facts, or my opinion...that is their right to do so or not. Everyone is entitled to an opinion--even you.

To the total &*(^% a bove who wants to boycott this blog, what in hell is wrong with you? This is going along the lines of this commission not wanting anyone to have an opinion or anyone winning a vote in this city. I can't believe how stupid some people can be. hope yur azz gets kicked. What a blockhead.

Part of the reason your blog is considered fiction is your distortion of the facts. L.W. has 35,000 residents and of those, 15,000 are voters. A bit more than 2,200 voted on heights, and a bit more than 1,200 voted yes. So,' 56% of the people told you so" is at best misleading. Would I be misleading if I said 2.5% of the "people" voted yes. Distorting facts diminishes the message. I guess your stance will be that I am confused, in bed with developers, or just some nut that wants to sit on s six story patio looking at the slums in the city I love.

anonymous at 915pm. When U wrote that, it msut ha ve been past your bedtime. Haha, Lynn, keep up the great blog. Those people can stay in their little shells of ignorance.

There is NO fiction in fact, anonymous. If only 1/3rd of the registered voters get to the polls, that is what it is. It was your side that wanted to change it back to March where fewer come out to vote. That is a fact. NO FICTION HERE.

So, you had every chance to get more people to the polls with your lies and distortions and twisting the truth. You didn't. You almost made it though. It just shows the power of the lie. Saul Alinsky and anarchism...you've learned well.

And don't forget, the mayor only won by a few hundred votes as well. Should we discount her election as FICTION or that outcome as distortion of the facts?

Twist it anyway you want anonymous. It doesn't cut the mustard and it doesn't change FACTS into FICTION.

On a facebook page (lake worth voice)popular with some LW residents, John Rinaldi asks where to travel for a calm relaxing mini vacation. Greg Rice replies - "John, Here's a nice boutique hotel in the middle of town in Naples. Inn on 5th. http://www.innonfifth.com/ There's a lot of great resturants and shops too."
April 29 at 11:54am

The Inn on 5th is a lovely 3 story boutique hotel in downtown Naples. Isn't this exactly what the residents are asking for but Mr. Rice says it won't work here?

Can 't find it.

2;20 Is Greg Rice your God? For a guy with just a few properties this blog seems to think our success is up to him.

The message here, as I read it is--Lead by example. Greg Rice is A LEADER in our town.
The other message has been that there are some in that NA and beyond who believe that this property is an eyesore and that Mr. Rice should clean it up. IT IS ON a major thoroughfare.
Obviously, Rice thinks it is just fine the way that it is and maintained within ordinance.
