The community is invited to help plant a garden, Saturday, March 2, from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. in the back of the historic Osborne School in Lake Worth. Hosted by For the Children, Inc., a non-profit organization, the garden will benefit the families of the greater Lake Worth area community.
CEO and organizer Reginale Durandisse says most of the participating students attend Barton Elementary, Lantana Middle, South Area Alternative, Lake Worth Middle, and Lake Worth High schools. “These youngsters range from 3 to 17 years in age and are excited at the prospect of growing tomatoes, collard greens, green peppers, egg plant, radish, lettuce, beans, and fruit trees,” she stated.
The experience is designed to teach children about the benefits of good nutrition and healthy eating, in addition to providing satisfaction from harvesting and eating fruits and vegetables they personally grew. The effort is being supported by the Lake Worth Kiwanis Club, Gratitude Training Graduates, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Healthy Kids, Healthy Communities, and Ted and Trudy. Music and free food will be available for participants, as well as kids’ workshop stations.
