It is no easy thing in having a different opinion today especially when it comes to politics in Lake Worth. When you have a different opinion, you can be assured that there will be someone out there in cyber-space that will take a crack at your head. People approach me with bits of information and more times than not they say, "Leave my name out of it." They are all afraid of the repercussions they will face by others--their neighbors or even their "friends." It's hard to stand up for what you believe is right. If you don't go with the status quo and the majority that is in power, your opinion is stomped upon and you personally are vilified and told by the local press that you are "ugly," or an "idiot" and a whole lot worse. The goal is to ruin the opponent's character and credibility in any way possible. This is what took place in our past election and it continues to this day.
Francois de La Rochefoucauld said, "We seldom find any person of good sense, except those who share our opinions," and there lies the rub.
A few more quotes:
Where an excess of power prevails, property of no sort is duly respected. No man is safe in his opinions, his person, his faculties, or his possessions,
~ James Madison
In the United States, the majority undertakes to supply a multitude of ready-made opinions for the use of individuals, who are thus relieved from the necessity of forming opinions of their own
~ Alexis de Tocqueville
In Lake Worth, and I am rather sure that other communities are not immune, elections have become as dirty as they get. The Internet opened up the nasty anonymous attacks and it made it easy for cowards. This began here years ago with Lake Worth Talk, an attack web site, and has intensified to where we are today--the anything goes mentality.
What we need are people of honesty and integrity but way too often we end up with a whole lot less--people who only want to win the game. They sacrifice their neighbor or opponent to win with the most vile of statements, usually anonymous, and you can count always on the flaming lie. Once elected, many officials change like a chameleon. They think they know best and the hell with your opinion or anyone else's.
When campaigns twist the truth and create unfounded attacks on a candidate’s personal character, it distorts the process because there is always a percentage of people who will believe the lies. A candidate or his message is sacrificed to meet the needs of those with devious political motives or just those with a difference of opinion. All too often this discourages the quality people we need to represent us. They don't run nor do they even get involved as witnessed by those who attend city commission meetings--so many have dropped out. It can be a degrading experience. More often than what should be tolerable, this leaves the seats to be filled by some whose lack of regard for honesty and integrity allow them to play degrading political games.
It is time that the Commission investigate and reflect on their Board appointments as some of these people are off the wall and write irresponsibly.
"Truth Matters."

After reading Wes Blackman's latest blog, I have concluded that he is 100% certifiably CRAZY. He's right up there with Lindsay. What a woose.
I'm disappointed in Wes.
That cartoon thing of his is a whack job done by a whacko.I used to think Wes had some integrity.Boy was I wrong.Way to go Wes.You are just another loser. How many elections did you lose?
If he really believes the crap he writes, then he is nuts. I think his objective is just to destroy the opposition. Even he can't believe the stuff he writes. Time to resign.
I am one of those people you speak about who no longer attends commission meetings. What you said is the reason I avoid politics now. Wasting time on the inaccurate and paranoid musings of a local malcontent is far from enlightening or uplifting.
Calling a commissioner, Christopher McVoid, a play on his surname, is more than insulting. He won his election by 57.72%
the rents at the casino fall hundreds of thousands short of funding the construction debt. what was supposed to be a six million dollar renovation is now a thirteen million dollar rebuild. the funding will fall on our residents through their utility bill.it is ironic that residents who cannot afford the casino stores are subsidizing people who can.
Wes needs to mature. Wouldn't he be embarrassed if his father read his blog. Wes always takes the low road.
Unfortunately, this is true. "They sacrifice their neighbor or opponent to win with the most vile of statements." Even friends are disparaged.
@9:57--This is inaccurate. The Casino was a little over $6 mil when you factor in the design.
The beach redevelopment was where the extra costs came in because of infrastructure. The city said that it was their obligation to fund the infrastructure because they are the owner.
I really have given up on your blog. thoughtful discussion is not encouraged. like you always say its my blog. our current electeds are not qualified( nor any in the last ten years)to deal with eroding infrastructure, code enforcement and casino financing. the huge amounts of money we have paid our utility consultant to pick our new provider is beyond inept.remember this consultant is being sued by vero for costing them 30 mil and a 38% increase in rates. within a year our rates are going to skyrocket. a fact.while this was going on our leaders were asleep at the wheel. proof available. my last try .
I donot want to argue, but over 13mil is the right number. 8 construction and design, the 5 from the county didnot take into account the overlooked lighting and utilities. proof available.
Thoughtful discussion has always been encouraged. It is the personal attack that is not.
to 7:27 i worked with m. lindsay during street painting. she was friendly, hard working and organized. her many friends appreciate her service to the city. i never see her blow her own horn. we resent your remarks. will this get posted?
Well, I am going to answer your comment, anonymous. It is absolutely true that Ms. Lindsey is a hard worker in her neighborhood and beyond. However, you are not the one who has been called an IDIOT by her, etc. She does not blow her own horn as you stated but she takes a lot of cracks at her opponents. So, get over your resentment, anonymous. When you get beat up by Lindsey, you might feel it. :) We are used to it.
Lynn, I have a question¿ Why did you write a whole article, about what you do on a daily bases¡ Bullets with names on them come to mind first, personal attacks of too revered residents next, and the list goes on and on and on and on.
Get over the "bullets" anonymous. Grow up and get a set. I do not resort to personal attacks. What I do write, however, is fact. Got a problem with that? Take that up with the State attorney too. :)
Gee Lynn, go back, and read half the things you have written about people, 90% are personal attacks.
There is a distinct difference in a personal attack and the truth, anonymous. Because I publish facts seems to get you upset is 100% your problem. Truth hurts.
