We hear about it. Sometimes we get to read about it and sometimes it is actually about someone we know--an American Dream story.

Mack Bernard, Democrat, is a Palm Beach County guy. He came here from Haiti in 1986 at age 10 with his sister who was then 12 after the uprising in Haiti-- No family here, no friends, and he didn't even speak English. He was taught that an education was important and went on and got Bachelor's degrees in Political Science and Criminology and then attended the University of Florida, where he received his J.D. in 2002 and Master's of Laws in Taxation in 2003. In 2004, Representative Bernard started his own law practice and title company, which he currently operates.

He started his political career in Delray Beach on the Town Council and was Vice Mayor. He went on to win 77.91% of the vote to become Florida Representative of District 84 where he serves on the Finance and Tax Council; the Government Operations Appropriations Committee; the Military and Local Affairs Policy Committee; and the Public Safety and Domestic Security Policy Committee. He was endorsed in that election by the Palm Beach County Human Rights Coalition.

During his legislative service, Bernard has passed 15 bills including the Scrutinized Companies Act, which prohibits state agencies and local government entities from contracting for goods and services of more than a certain amount with companies in Iran and the Sudan, and the Financial Institution Act, which restricts Florida’s chartered banks from conducting business with foreign financial institutions that support Iran.

There is no better time to introduce Mack Bernard, running for State Senator in the new District 27, as his opponent, Jeff Clemens, had his kick-off campaign fundraiser last night.  Mack's two opponents are career politician Jeff Clemens who has been endorsed by Andy Amoroso and Shanon Materio and the other opponent is Kevin Rader who is sewing up a certain segment of the population through endorsements from  Ted Deutsch and Robert Wexler. Mack is running on a platform of local jobs and job training, lower automobile insurance rates, keeping taxes low and quality schools for our children. That beats Clemens' medical marijuana platform.

Mack has two general reasons for running--to improve Florida and the quality of life for all residents. There will be more about Mack as time goes by.
