I really like this quote that I just grabbed from Original Save Our Beach, Inc., a political action committee in Deerfield Beach and our friend, Bett Willett, who is a Co-President of that PAC. I especially like the acronym: oSOB. It is catchy and clever and right in your face.

Lynn, you keep saying our downtown, but east of Federal is NOT the downtown corridor.

Frankly I don't have the time to answer your grasping at straws argument to keep buildings high. Lake Avenue east of Dixie is downtown to me.
To anon at 11:21 you are so correct. The Downtown Corridor is between Dixie Highway, and Federal Highway,from First Avenue South, To Second Avenue North. Just ask Andy.
Lake Worth has a long standing tradition of having a small group dictate to the majority, as repeatedly shown by the small voter turnout.
The problem is not only the lies and misinformation of this small but loud group, it is an Agenda without any knowledge, education, or experience on the matters. The resultant short and long term consequences and predictable harm to the city are easily recalled.

I find your solicitation of out of town groups interesting. Was that a result of the pitifully low turnout at the Shuffleboard Courts yesterday or just an ongoing tactic like the ACORN signature teams that have been used in the past?
If you have ever petitioned, it is an arduous job. Very few people, when push comes to shove, want to work and sweat that hard. they may belueve in the cause and sign the petition but sweat equity is not their bag.
Many people did not know about the meeting. Some, because the petitions were not ready, chose to stay in bed or do other things. Those who did show up such as myself, did not know that we would not be ready to go out and petition.
So find whatever you want as "interesting." All I know to stand up for a cause is back-breaking tough work. Wish us luck. I'm sure that you do. :)
Financial harm to the City will come from any development in this area since it is a CRA district and none of the additional taxes from new units will go to the City, only to the CRA. The City will continue to get the meager share that it got when the CRA was established in 1989.
And of course additional height will only exacerbate this inequity.
Everyone's taxes will need to be raised for the concurrency required for new residents to benefit the downtown stores with a few additional patrons.
Wise leaders will reject excessive develop[ment in this CRA area.

The CRA district is astonishingly large and includes so many areas that are inappropriate to have been included.
Please go to CRA website and see for yourself. The entire downtown and up to 3rd Ave N and down to
2nd Ave S are in the Historic Downtown. The area gets larger as one goes west and shrinks slightly east of the alley between O and Palmway.

My view of the CRA is dramatically different than that expressed by you on these and other matters.
You certainly can't refute that the CRA assistance given to Publix was so critical that without it, the 7 year effort to cut down on carbon footprints and outsourcing our retail dollars would not have been successfully consumated in the new Publix's current location.
Given the long period of the closing of the Gulf Stream Hotel, it seems to be obvious to everyone that CRA assistance will be required to return our Historical Hotel to a dramatically higher Tax Assessment. The vacant lots at federal and the condition of West Lake and Lucerne beg for assistance to add to the sustainability and viability of Lake Worth.
I will leave to another venue your misunderstanding and misinformation on the amount of Tax Revenues Lake Worth "doesn't receive" because of the CRA and how the General Fund would "be better off" if the CRA was shrunk to exclude downtown Lake Worth.

Commissioner Maxwell has repeatedly and constantly advocated for the comprehensive review and subsequent CONTRACTION of the CRA for the very reason spoken to and more. Let's get behind him and make this happen.

LOL. Yes anon at 606. Please get your facts straight and toe the Maxwell party line. Anyone who would argue with Laurence on land use issues, regulations, or history in LW is not going to sound too intelligent. So you're forgiven. But don't do it again.

And btw, Maxwell has repeatedly said nothing of the kind. It was an idea he picked up recently in a board meeting, and it was from Laurence's public comments in that meeting.
Maxwell can't figure out WHAT he wants. When Golden wants to take back the CRA, he votes NO. But now, he says he has always thought that the commission should be the CRA Reeeeeally? Sounds a tad bit two-faced, no? Maybe he should cut back on his alcohol consumption.
Alcohol consumption is a personal matter.I like a first quality wines and Dom Perignon on festive occasions.Some have a reason tocelebrate daily!
