This is what's known as a Universal Primary.
What is a Universal Primary?
The Universal Primary Contest was created and allows for all voters, regardless of Party, to vote in any Party's primary election, if the winner will not have opposition in the general election.
The PRIMARY ELECTION is held on the Tuesday, twelve (12) weeks before the General Election, to select party nominees. You may vote only for candidates of your party. If you are registered with a minor party or without party affiliation, you cannot vote in the Party Primaries. However, Article VI, Section 5(b), Florida Constitution, provides that if all candidates have the same party affiliation and the winner will have no opposition in the General Election, all qualified voters, regardless of party affiliation, may vote in the Primary Election for that office. This is known as a Universal Primary Contest.
This means that although Democrats Mack Bernard and Jeff Clemens are only opposing each other, Republicans, Libertarians and Independents will be able to vote on August 14. The winner of this election automatically becomes the new State Senator District 27 for Florida.
Therefore, it is very important to get out the vote.

Everyone needs to VOTE ON AUGUST 14 --either in person or sign up for an absentee ballot-by-mail at the Supervisor of Elections website.
We've got to STOP JEFF CLEMENS from his upwardly mobile political power grab & never-ending ego boost.
I don't know much about Mack Bernard, other than what I've read on your blog. But I do know that Clemens is the devil in sheep's clothing. In my opinion, he was responsible for many terrible decisions in LW (Gateway with CRA & Greater Bay as Mayor, for example.)
