Let's get Florida back in the hands of the voters

Comment Up
Florida Hometown Democracy's good friend, Joyce Tarnow, alerts us to the following:

"Sen. Mike Bennett of Bradenton (an electrical contractor) is pushing to remove the "needs" analysis in the Growth Management Act. He was also the pusher of SB 360. These plan amendments are added to the already large inventory of developments sitting on the shelf.

DCA Approved In 2007, 2008, And 2009 Large Number Of Plan Amendments that greatly Increased Development Potential.

FACTS:
  • Since January 2007 up to mid October 2009 there have been 1,571 large use map amendments.
  • These amendments have affected 515,000 acres of Florida land
  • The potential affect is over 483,000 dwelling units
  • With 1,184,000 additional residents
  • 771,000,000 square feet of non-residential development capacity

*Tom Pelham is the Director of the Department of Community Affairs that has responsibility for administering Florida's Growth Management laws."

Folks, do NOT think for one moment that we do not need Florida Hometown Democracy to pass next year. Amendment 4 will be the only thing that will protect our State from all these Comprehensive Plan changes and will help in the prevention of corruption by local officials by making their decisions subject to a vote of the people for whom they affect. Even Ms. Hayes who has spoken in front of the Lake Worth City Commission on several occasions agrees that we should not be changing our Comprehensive Plan.

Over-building is not the answer. Everyone should know that. The only ones who don't are some of the builders, the developers, the planners, the mortgage brokers, the Realtors and the evil Chamber of Commerce.

Sen. Mike Bennett-take a look at his t-reports. He was bought by developers, now he has to deliver the goods. Amendment 4 will finally give us elected officials that represent the taxpayers. So long,Mike.
