Lyin Ryan Houck

Ryan Houck, whose paid job it is to diss Florida Hometown Democracy every chance he gets, says, "I look forward to debating Blackner every chance I get, because the more people learn about Amendment 4, the more likely it is that they'll oppose it." He adds: "I do appreciate her willingness to engage in all of these forums around the state."

Well, what a disingenuous guy Ryan is. Read all about our Palm Beach County resident who started Florida Hometown Democracy and her ideals. Unlike Ryan, she is NOT being paid to speak on the environment and to protect our great State. That is the difference between her and Ryan Houck, a Florida Chamber of Commerce shill. How many people are willing to put their own money and time where their mouth is?

Haitian Gang in Lake Worth zapped

Perhaps some of the kids over the last few decades have not learned much at Lake Worth High School but one thing that six of them did learn was how to form a violent gang and participate in murder and mayhem. They met in high school in a class for “non-native English speakers.” That is a gentle way of describing a violent gang of invaders who have no regard to the American way of life and our principles.

The government has now dismantled Top 6, a Haitian gang in Lake Worth, that was in control of several other gangs. 91 indictments later, they will be brought to American justice.

Former Utility Employees file suit

Comment Up

Mayor once again opens mouth and inserts foot.

"The whole thing was a hoax perpetuated by Bill Coakley as far as I'm concerned," Clemens said.

Coakley was the chairman of the city's former Electric Utility Task Force and is a candidate for mayor. He said Clemens' comments show "how out of the loop he is" about power plant security problems.

Message from Commissioner Jennings

Comment Up
Tomorrow Night, Tuesday October 20, 6pm at our Regular City Commission Meeting, we will be taking two exciting votes regarding public land and future growth. As always, your input on these issues is encouraged before or during the meeting.

Approving EAR-based Amendments
The Comprehensive Plan is a very important planning document; it lays out the current and future plan for growth and development in our City. We are required to amend the plan every seven years. The Comp Plan Amendments that we are voting on Tuesday night include important changes to ensure that future growth is harmonious with our existing neighborhoods and commercial areas. One of these changes is reducing building height limits to max 25 - 35’ throughout most areas of the city. Compatible development has been highly encouraged by our residents; finally it will be formalized into the Comp Plan.

Protecting Public Rights of Way for Public Benefit
This is an item Commissioner Mulvehill has brought forward to the Commission. The protection of public right-of-ways will ensure that we do not give away important pieces of public land including the roadways that dead-end into the Intracoastal. These pieces of land are important access points to public waterways and should be retained for public use and access.

I hope to see many of you at the meeting.

Best Regards,
Cara Jennings

This Campaign is as dull as a year old razor blade

For some reason I have not felt any excitement about this entire campaign season. Perhaps it is because I am not walking every street in this city this time around as I have always done in the past. There is very little passion, and over all, there is nothing but dullness…certainly no melodrama other than Lake Worth's “Kanye,” of course…can’t forget him and the politics behind his bull. But one thing that I do know is, the people in this city have been screwed for so long paying one of the highest tax rates around, not only on ad valorem but on everything.

We continue to waste money. We continue to lose MONEY. How do we do that? The Internal Auditor was essentially fired. For what-- Reporting on the facts and the horrible results of this past Audit. I can’t even get a copy of his report. The City Clerk’s office says it does NOT exist. Surely it does. He got paid for something, didn’t he? This morning I was told that they will check with Finance or the City Manager.

We do have a copy of the External Audit and it “ain’t” pretty folks. There has been a lack of oversight of our capital assets in excess of $150 million. That is a fact no one can deny.

Recently a candidate for Mayor said that he wanted to bring people together…and then in the same breath said that it was just like high school here…and once he is mayor, those main camps will be outside and out in the cold. Hopefully whoever is elected can mend the big divide and not leave anyone out in the cold and listen to some of us who are crying “foul” and find out where the missing money is.

AARP, Obama Care and me

I remember when I got my first notice in the mail asking me to become a member of AARP. I had just turned 50 and it sort of amused me at first because I thought it was for seniors, you know, OLD people. Am I that old already? Good grief. I fought the thought and delayed membership for several years and then decided why not join…afterall, it is an organization that fights for Seniors’ rights and I am all for that. Big mistake.

I dropped the membership like a hot potato because I did not feel that this organization was helping or representing Seniors in the manner it should. It was just another group out to get my money and influenced by politics. It was just a part of the system hoping to profit from it and I felt no loyalty from it or any sincerity towards the very members that kept it alive—all those people they have taken dues from all of these years…the Seniors.

It’s always about the money. AARP wants to become one of the vendors for Obama Care and the organization is speaking out in favor of it even though they know Seniors will pay more and get less. It did the exact same thing when it came to the prescription Drug Plan. It was all about what it would make from the deal, not if the Seniors would be better off.

Since July of this year, it is estimated that about 60,000 Seniors have dropped their membership with AARP and the numbers are growing. More and more of them do not believe that this healthcare plan of Obama’s will be beneficial to them or affordable. Only 35% of seniors over 65 still believe that the President is on track. What we do know right now is that it will cost $900 BILLION in the first 10 years; Obama will raid Medicare for some of the money; and tax the healthcare and insurance industries.

65% of the people who took a recent Poll in September by CBS wanted a public option. There is widespread confusion in the Obama Health care proposal.

Being a cultural conservative and among those who are considered elderly, I am among the only group that Obama lost in the last election. We are also concerned about the rising national debt that has increased by 1/3rd since Obama took office, the corporate bailouts, and the overall "stimulus." The more I read, the more I am worried, that I will no longer be able to afford or have the same quality of healthcare that I enjoy now.

GUTTER POLITICS IN LAKE WORTH

He who controls the Water...

Willie Howard’s article in today’s Post was excellent and shows that we have come a long way baby! Once we knew that we could get rid of the waste by deep well injection, no other decision made sense but to continue on with our Reverse Osmosis System particularly after spending nearly $15 million on 3 wells. I would wager to say that this decision, down the road, will be the one that will eventually turn our city around to where we are actually making money...a seller rather than a buyer of the most important commodity. He who controls the water, controls the world.

As a former Mayor just stated, "No one ever asks the following questions--what does it cost us per gallon; what do we sell it for per gallon and if we are short on water, why are we selling it to other cities?" What will our water cost us per gallon after the RO is built as it appears we no longer have ALL the money to fund it. We still have around $15 million left from the $69.9 million 2004 bond fund. This RO and the deep well will run around $23 million after applying the Federal Stimulus of $2.5 million.

Joe Egly, former commissioner, must feel finally vindicated as he was the Commissioner who strongly advocated for our own reverse osmosis system. What does candidate for Mayor Loretta Sharpe have to say who was against the RO as I recall? Perhaps she believes as I do now, that because of the waste problem solved that it is the best way forward. Was it not she who sued Joe at one time because he dare question her from the dais when she was involved in the golf course concession that owed us money? (That will be a future story).

Matt Constantine, Adopt-A-Family
Denise Carreau, Corporate Consultant

This is the first time that I recall that we have had such a panel that will make recommendations on a prospective department head.

South Florida Haitians targeted

"Washington, D.C., Oct. 16, 2009 — The Securities and Exchange Commission today charged three South Florida residents with conducting a Ponzi scheme and affinity fraud that collected at least $14.3 million from hundreds of Haitian-American investors residing in South Florida and New Jersey."

P&Z and Heights in Lake Worth

Recently this subject came before our Planning & Zoning board and the Amendment of our Comprehensive Plan. I was curious as to the Board's feelings on this matter and outcome of their vote on the height restrictions brought forward by Commissioner Jennings and was told the following:

...the entire P&Z Board and others felt that there should be some additional heights on North West Dixie Hwy where there are deep lots. Some additional consideration be given to the TOD's. All the rest was fine by maintaining our downtown, neighborhoods and majority of our town the shorter heights would work. Even the two Lynda's agreed on these and voted nay with comments that the commission still needs to give further thought to those area's.

The motion was supposed to be to not approve the height changes as proposed with giving additional thought to those area's mentioned above but it came out to vote yes or no for what was in front of us and the comments from every member of the board .... it does not matter how we vote the commission has final say regardless.

Lynda Mahoney and Linda Davis voted No to the motion that we not approve the changes as presented by the Commission.

The Killer Coke and the Poison Pen

If someone offers to buy you a coke right before his newspaper hits the stands -- watch out -- ESPECIALLY if it is election time in Lake Worth and one of his best friends is Loretta Sharpe who is running against Laurence McNamara (her nemesis) for the top act.

Who scripted the comedy routine for Kanye? Is this all part of the "dynamic" campaign I have been hearing so much about?

Chamber of Commerce takes Obama heat

"Big financial firms and their lobbyists" are “using every bit of influence they have to maintain a status quo that has maximized their profits at the expense of American consumers,” Obama said. “In fact, over the last 10 years, the Chamber of Commerce alone spent nearly half a billion dollars on lobbying — a half a billion dollars!!!.”
